UPMC Does not care about you
After being told multiple times by my insurance company that this doctor is an in-network participating provider and is covered, this doctor's office canceled my critical procedure TWO DAYS BEFOREHAND telling me they will not take my insurance so my only option was to pay $6,500 cash out of pocket before the procedure. My insurance says they are covered and has called Dr. Brand's office multiple times to tell them so; but Dr. Brand is refusing to treat me anyway. This feud between Highmark and UPMC is risking or costing people's lives, but UPMC does not care. It is not about you and your health. It's about UPMC's bottom line, bottomless pockets, and health care monopoly. Abysmal 'care' and atrocious, disgusting patient relations. Go to AHN.

DR. BRAND IS AN OUTSTANDING MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.
I HAVE BEEN IN DR. BRAND'S PANCREATIC CANCER STUDY FOR 6 YEARS BECAUSE OF MY FAMILY HISTORY-(FATHER, AUNT & UNCLE.) MY PCP DR. DITOPPA RECOMMENDED ME TO HIM. DR. BRAND IS DIRECT, CALM, ASSURING AND HONEST. A RECENT BLOOD TEST DEVELOPED AS A RESULT OF THIS SWEDISH STUDY THAT I AM PARTICIPATING IN WITH DR. BRAND CONFIRMS THAT I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE PANCREATIC CANCER. FORTUNATELY FOR ME DR. BRAND DETECTED BARRETT'S ESOPHAGUS, A PRECURSOR TO ESOPHAGEAL CANCER, WHICH IS NOW BEING TREATED AND IS UNDER SURVEILLANCE. WE WOULD NOT HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS DISEASE IF I HAD NOT STARTED THE STUDY. I ENTERED INTO THE STUDY OUT OF CURIOSITY AND THE INTENTION TO NOT ONLY PROTECT MYSELF BUT MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. THIS GOAL HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED WITH MY SELECTION OF DR. RANDALL BRAND.

Dr Brand had thoroughly reviewed my extensive medical history and recent lab work from another doctor. He provided useful tips to ease my GI symptoms and reassured me that my cancer is not more likely than normal to spread to my GI tract based on the genetic results.

Insulted and bullied the patient in order to obtain consent for get additional family records to have in a data base. Patient was there for genetic testing for GI and GYN cancers, and the doctor began the session by shaming patient about her weight.

I was in a Pancreatic study with Dr Barnd. I was told he would run the study through my insurance. I received high medical bill from UPMC. The co-pay was not covered in the study. I certainly was not prepared for this. In conclusion I will no longer be a participant in the study. Buyer beware.
