This was the worst medical experience I’ve ever had. Here are the highlights I can fit the with character limit. 1. Dr. Vandenhoven asked “Why do you have that thing on your face?” That “thing” was a mask. I had specifically put in my chart that I’m immune compromised and need the doctor and medical assistant to mask. 2. Throughout the process he told jokes that I can only describe as mortician dad jokes. Completely inappropriate. 3. He said “People say I’m a say-dist because I enjoy my job too much.” This made me uncomfortable, so I didn’t respond. Then he said “I’m joking but you can’t tell because of this thing (pointing towards his mask).” 4. He twisted the needle in my thumb/wrist area very hard, and it hurt so much more than the last time I got an EMG. It was an 8 on my pain scale, so I yelped an expletive. His response was an amused, “I guess you don’t like pain, huh?” 5. It took a month for my hand to recover, and I regret not walking out so much.

Thorough exam with immediate results. Not a fun exam with electrical zaps and needles but made easier by the distraction of jokes and conversation. Thanks to Dr. Vandenhoven for his professionalism and humor.

Very thorough
This was a follow up visit after about a year. He spent time examining my leg nerve problem which had improved. Compared X-rays of my spine and outlined alternatives for treatment. I’m happy with the visit.

Exploring the source of the disability
Doctor was very thorough and took notes during the procedures. That is important because too many leave the interview without taking notes and depend on memory. He helped calm and distract me from the exploration with his sense of humor. Thanks!I never felt rushed and I received the information I needed to make a decision. This study will have long lasting consequences - thank you so much!

Awesome Doctor
His humor was great. It put me at ease during the exam with the shocks and acupuncture. His nurse on the hand was very rude

The Best
Dr V tested me for multiple sources of my leg numbness and weakness. He was extremely thorough and took his time. His conclusion has given me a great sense of relief after months of uncertainty. He’s been a life-changer.

Inappropriate humor
Unbelievable experience; this "doctor" attempted to be humorous yet was far from it--off putting "jokes" about blondes, marriage, life and death. Incredibly insensitive and boasted pictures of all of his family at the end with inappropriate comments throughout. I tried to refocus him on the issue very serious to me which he entirely dismissed and was the farthest thing from empathetic...disgraceful doctor.

EMG on 3/9/23
I was called in to the exam room a few minutes before my scheduled time which is always nice! From the beginning, Dr. van den Hoven was sincere and very attentive He wanted to make sure he understood my medical history and was truly interested in my well-being! Throughout the procedure, which can be somewhat unsettling, he talked about what he was doing and why! This made me more comfortable! His humor was also I nicely added touch! I will be a repeat patient if necessary and will refer others to him!

Dr. van den Hoven is a true gem of the medical profession. He was very patient and thorough in using various diagnostic methods, primarily EMG, to track down the source of a persistent nerve issue in my shoulder. He has a wonderful sense of humor and truly cares about the patient. I give Dr. van den Hoven my highest recommendation.

I had an excellent visit with Dr. Van Den Hoven today- he addressed my symptoms and actually was able to tell me what is causing my thigh and buttocks pain I have had for over a year. As he does not do treatment at this time (more diagnostic work), he has referred me on for options for treatment for my diagnosis.
