Not a Good Visit
Worst doctor I have ever seen. Diagnosed with prostate cancer and he was the surgeon I was sent to see. Asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wasn't a doctor and was sent to him to discuss my options. He gave me his spiel and his arrogance and lack of empathy was on show. As a final insult he checked my prostate. He was rough, and I bled afterward.

Great doctor
No issues with diagnosis or management. I realize most of the negative reviews here are about his personality. I personally did not have a bad experience and would go back.

Worst meeting EVER. Get a 2nd opinion!
My meeting with Dickstein was the worst Dr meeting that I have ever been to. My wife were in the waiting room when the Dr entered, sat down, and asked how he could help. My wife and I look at each other like What? I shot him a surprised look and said I am new to prostate cancer, that he was my first appointment for treatment. He went through his spiel and when I asked questions he said to wait till the end and I could ask questions. He talked for about 5 minutes discussing surgery and radiation treatments then opened the door for questions. My wife asked how many surgeries he has completed and he answered that he didn't keep count, maybe 100-200. He then commented that if I wanted more experienced doctors to look at Johns Hopkins! Amazing. Told me I am a big guy, with a big prostate, and a big belly. Insulting to say the least. My wife actually gasped, 'WHAT'. No empathy at all. We were in the room for 15 minutes when his next appt arrived. Do Better. Hopkins here I come.

get a second opinion
My husband was treated by Dr.Dickstein for bladder cancer. He performed surgery and we were told he thought he got most of it ,may have to go in again. Would discuss when we went over the pathology results. We returned for the post op visit. He asked my husband if he stopped smoking. When the answer was no he went on to say the best thing to do was to have his bladder removed! This of course was not what we wanted to hear. He brought in a small movie screen for us to watch explaining the different types of surgery. No pathology results were reviewed. My husband asked about chemo, proton therapy,BCG and other treatment. He said no to all of the above and was disturbed that my husband didn't schedule a date for this surgery right then and there. Thankfully he pursued other opinions. Fortunately he did NOT have this surgery. It is not needed. He will undergo BCG for 6 treatments with follow up procedures to be sure the cancer doesn't return every 3 months. Please get other opinions!

Failed vasectomy procedure
After 3 sperm sample analyses confirmed that the procedure was a failure, he finally admitted it. Mostly since I wouldn't wait around another couple of months to do a 4th. He said he might have cut the wrong tube, it could have grown back, etc. and he would "make it right". What he meant is, he would be happy to charge me again for what I had already paid for. When I called him out on this he said his billing staff was out of the office this week but would check with them to set it right. Then he had a billing person call me to tell me that there was nothing they could do and it would be at full price, which had gone up since the original procedure over 12 months ago. Ill do the procedure again, somewhere else.

Dr. Dickstein’s arrogance and condescension are immediately obvious. He treated my fiance for bladder cancer, performing a radical cystectomy. He only explained the ramifications of the procedure after I called his office and complained about the lack of information provided. He seemed amused that my boyfriend had questions regarding his “physical” function after the procedure. Dr. Dickstein mentioned my boyfriend’s age (64) as rendering concerns about sexual intimacy inconsequential. As one who researches in depth and has had many interactions with truly caring, competent, professional specialists, it was disheartening to see a doctor show such a lack of concern for his patient and the impact a cystectomy would have on his quality of life. Dr. Dickstein responded crudely to my questions, which I did not appreciate. Credentials do not guarantee professionalism, expertise, or compassion!!!

Dr. Dickstein has been amazing. Being diagnosed with my fourth type of cancer, was obviously scary and frustrating. He eased my mind, performed the needed procedure and has done excellent follow up.

I would recommend this doctor. Dr. Dickstein was extremely thorough in answering our questions and concerns prior to surgery. After surgery, the doctor and or someone on his team would stop by daily during my hospital stay. Overall, this doctor eased my concerns in a very difficult situation.

I am extremely pleased with my experience with Dr. Dickstein. I feel very confident in his knowledge and skill. He took time to meet with me to explain my upcoming procedure and even had a video to help me to further understand what to expect. Dr. Dickstine spent time postoperatively came to check on me and even returned my phone calls to answer questions and further put me at ease. I feel very blessed to have been able to be treated by Dr. Dickstine and would definitely recommend his practice

After three visits with another urologist who was very vague in his opinion of what to do with my kidney tumor, I saw Dr. Dickstein who gave me realistic options and consequences. I decided to undergo a partial nephrectomy which he felt was the best course. The tumor was revealed to be cancer. He came to my room every morning to check on me. I love this doctor and felt I was in the best hands.

Dr. DIckstein's an amazing man/human! In his office or @ the hospital, I find his knack for explaining things concisely and optimistically always help me relax. My PC diagnosis / biopsy were very high, surgery only option, and after doing my homework getting recommendations from doctors, friends and family I chose CU (Glen Burnie) and Dr. Rian Dickstein.

I would NOT recommend this doctor. He came across pompous and somewhat arrogant. I had 3 total visits each time it took over an 1&1/2 hour wait then felt rushed during appointment. He downplayed my symptoms . Each visit I was told to come back in few months to do another tests and never got an answer or game plan for treating my symptoms which included Low T, ED, Urinary retention and frequent urinating. . Every appointment felt like a complete waste of time and money.
