Dr. Areen refused to treat my sinus infection ( nearly 1 year). He said it was allergies. I had a CT Scan at the ER and it showed All my sinuses were infected.By then no antibiotics worked. He referred me to UCD (Dr. Strong) where I was finally helped. I had to undergo 3 hrs. of surgery and have my sinuses packed with Tobramycin to cure the infection ( 4 different strains). Areen needs to retire. He is not up to speed or interested in medical care. Mailing it in.

Condescending & dismissive
Waited 3 months for an appointment. Walked in, the place is empty except for staff. Girl at check-in was incredibly rude, said I was “late” (I was15 minutes early for my appt) because I didn’t show up 30 minutes prior to do paperwork (that could have been emailed to me). Finally meet Areen and he was completely dismissive of my symptoms, as well as being condescending. Has a weird habit of closing his eyes as he speaks to you. I assume now it’s because he’s lying. Said I had GERD, take OTC meds & he’d see me in a month. Severely overreached by saying “maybe this will fix your insomnia too” (I’ve had insomnia all my life, but mentioned the symptoms were making it worse). Then had the audacity to say “You’ll come back in 4 weeks and tell me what a great Doctor I am!” Fast forward 3 weeks, my symptoms are worse despite following his advice. Going to a different ENT. Considering keeping my f/u appt & posting my $15 copay to tell him off in person.

Awful!!! Sent years ago by my employer, State of California, post retirement for hearing loss. His attitude was that I was looking for some sort of financial gain. Skip to ten years later and a problem with sinuses. As he looked at my file he flashed a glare. Long story short he tried to fix deviated septum. Disaster, his nurse was shocked at his almost violent removal of the stents. Of which, I’m not too sure he got them all. My breathing has never been the same and sinus infections have increased.

Dr. Areen has been my doctor for 20+ years. I went from someone with recurring sinus infections who thought life with stuffy head was normal, to a very happy, clear breathing person. He did a wonderful sinus surgery on me and has been always available to follow up with. I have been happy to refer both of my sons to him and anyone else who has sinus issues. Dr. Areen takes time to listen to me and always gives me options for treatments. If you have ENT issues, you cannot do better than Dr. Areen.

Dr Areen is very good.. But there's something about the office and the way they do things I don't like. I have been here about a year for something serious and I still don't feel like I have a relationship with any of the staff, including Areen.. It's almost like a meat market that is very routine and robotic. He has so many patients that sometimes I notice that he doesn't remember who I am or why I'm here. He's a great guy but I think they're to busy. Maybe they need a bigger office and more doctors to lighten the load.

The appointment was for solid matter becoming dislodged from the naso-pharyngeal passage, but Dr. Areen dismissed it and became fixated on my ear drum. I was given two dittos and rushed out of the office. The reception mis-charged me and had Sutter send me an email later asking for more money.
