Great doctor! Would recommend.
Super knowledgeable, down to earth, explained things in a way that I understood, kind and not intimidating to my kids.

My 13 year old daughter is being treated by Dr. Simmons for a variety of conditions including Anxiety, OCD and Tourette Syndrome. She first saw him when she was in preschool. We have always found Dr. Simmons to be very thorough, patient, empathetic and kind. He has a great bedside manner and talks to my daughter in a way that really helps put her at ease, and assures her that he understands what she is going through and will do everything he can to help her. He always takes the time to answer any questions we have and explains things to us in a clear way that we can both understand. He is very knowledgeable and we have never felt rushed or dismissed. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a neurologist for your child.

Arrogant in his misdiagnosis of our daughter
Dr. Simmons came across arrogant. My daughter was suffering from sudden onset of neurological symptoms, ultimately, as a result of an anxiety disorder. He , instead , misdiagnosed her as a tic disorder... Tourette’s, which lead to months of unnecessary medication that made her worse. We eventually ended up in the E.R at Albany med where the pediatric neurologists were able to correctly diagnose her and she then began the road to recovery... Medication free.

Dr. Richard J. Simmons
The doctor immediately engaged my 5 year old anxious daughter, who was nervous, and instantly became at ease. He was humorous and she liked that. We were also impressed with his ability to explain in a coherent way what we needed to know. He was down to earth-great bedside manner. His staff, especially Franki was great; so kind, friendly and helpful.

Best Pediatric Neurologist
We have been with Dr. Simmons for about 12 years. He has taken exceptional care of all three of my children. If at anytime he's been unsure of a diagnosis or what to do next he refers us to a doctor with expertise in that specific field. I dread the day that my kids are too old to see Dr. Simmons. Thank you for the amazing care over the last 12 years Dr. Simmons!

I brought my 5 year old son to see him and on the second visit to get results for his MRI he was super nonchalant and didn't seem like he cared at all about my child. He blew off the results of the MRI and acted annoyed or bored with my questions. Barely gave me any information about the results and symptoms that could happen. Will not recommend him to anyone I know and am currently trying to get a second opinion.
