Frustrating Poor & Unfair Appointment Policies
I had my first appointment with Dr. Unger in mid-November, where he emphasized needing radiology testing before a follow-up due to insurance changes in January 2025. Financial constraints and the short timeframe for imaging results made me realize I needed to cancel the appointment.Despite multiple calls from their office, I couldn’t answer in time. Every attempt to return calls during office hours routed me to a third-party answering service that couldn’t process cancellations. Even the service representative apologized, unsure why my calls were directed there. After a month of trying to cancel, I was still charged a $100 no-show fee. The office's systems feel intentionally obstructive, prioritizing fees over patient care. For a neurology practice serving patients with memory and executive functioning challenges, this setup is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this office based on my experience. Proceed with caution.

Dr Unger Scheduled 2K dollar Bloodwork
Dr Unger scheduled blood work that cost me 2K dollar. If I had known, I would not have consented. The results made no difference in treatment so it was waste of good money. He was late to appointment by over 2 hours before I left and rescheduled.

Rude staff
Recently the front office gal called me & said the doctor needed to speak to me regarding a recent CatScan I had done at his request. The appointment was for the following week. I am currently awaiting a heart procedure & doctor Unger has been helping me get through this heart ordeal. I arrived at my appointment, right time & date only to find out Dr. Unger was on vacation abroad. He never requested me to come in & why that staff person put me through that I’ll never know. Dr. Unger is caring& my husband & I have been patients for approximately 5 years. It is not the first time the staff has been rude to me. Don’t let the staff affect your feelings toward the doctor. He is a wonderful doctor. The staff apparently needs an office manager to straighten them out.

The doctor is only as good as his staff.
Dr. Unger is extremely knowledgeable. His office staff is rude, unprofessional, and dishonest. Office staff will not take or leave a message for the doctor after the doctor informs patients to call him if symptoms worse or they encounter new symptoms. I watched them tell two patients they were writing a message for the doctor, watched them sit and do nothing, and then laugh about the patient after they hung up the phone. Appointments are rescheduled frequently on short notice and the rescheduled appointments are months out. The office staff does not know how to process prior authorization for the insurance. Jackie is rude, mean, and does not know what she is doing with appointments, customer service, insurance, etc. He has frequent turnover with office staff and every one of them needs to have lessons in effective communication and manners. While the doctor is a good doctor, he is only as good as the staff he hires and keeps.

Heartless and Horrible Practice
Horrible and heartless practice staff that seem to be clueless as to the care for the memory disorders that they are treating. No call to inform primary caregiver that a $35 copay was missed or that the next appointment had been canceled over missing said copay. Patient automatically discharged from system and not able to be seen again. Absolutely despicable.

Very Rude. And Unprofessional Staff
The front desk staff were extremely rude and unprofessional! I am a retired dentist, and I would have fired a staff member if they treated patients the way that I was treated! Dr. Unger is nice enough, but he performed a nerve study on me which was the most painful thing that I have experienced, and I am not a wimp nor am I a novice when it comes to pain. I have other nerve studies done elsewhere, have had 4 major surgeries, a fractured skull, broken bones, kidney stones and have gone through childbirth, but the nerve study he performed topped these. Find another neurologist. No one should be treated the way his staff treated me!

Like everyone else, we love dr unger and think he is a wonderful neurologist. HOWEVER we will no longer put up with his horrible front desk "lady". They are extremely lucky that we did not press battery charges on her after she snatched my 19yr old daughter's phone out of her hand and scatched her with her fake nails! After waiting for over an hr for her appointment she asked if she could reschedule because she had to get to work, she was informed it would be $100 fee!!!! She texted me to see what to do so I asked her to call me so I could speak with the office staff. She told my daughter that she didn't have to talk to me because my daughter is over 18 and she needs to make the decision herself. While berating my daughter, I told her to put me on speaker phone, and that is when she grabbed the phone out of her hand and continued her rude behavior. Lots was said and I informed her that because of her behavior I was going to let Dr unger know we would no longer be patients, to which she said good, hung up on me and threw the phone back at my daughter. Obviously he does not care how his patients are treated because enough people have expressed how horribly they were treated by this person and nothing happens to her.

Not a good neurologist
I am a medical professional, he is not a good neurologist. He does not see his patients in the hospital. The office staff is horrible, and constantly changing, which is a sign of a bad doctor. So much CYA and billing paperwork that he expects to be filled out each visit. Never on time. Communication is impossible. He has never seen a fee that he didn't want to charge. Archaic equipment and non Medicare approved therapies for cash. Even charges for drinking water by the bottle. Charges over-reads for studies not done there. Much better choices for a local Neurologist.

Would give a zero if possible for staff.
The office staff is very rude and unhelpful. Very money hungry and love to charge extra money. I was basically called a liar and his nurse refused to let me speak with him. Office manager cannot be spoken to, just messaged. I was told that I could get another neurologists by a staff person but, then basically called a liar by his nurse when I informed her of the situation. . I do not think Dr. Unger is aware of how his staff treats his patients. He is a very nice man and very knowledgeable. I am going to take the advise of his staff and go elsewhere. If you can get by the dragons at the moat, he is wonderful. If not, you will wait a long time in the waiting room, be spoken to rudely and possibly called a liar, and billed $100.00or more for being late or calling on the day of appointment with emergency cancelation. Even if it cannot be helped.

Excellent neurologist
Very friendly and professional. I was given a standard neurological exam. Based on my particular issue, an MRI was ordered as well as bloodwork. He was extremely thorough and answering any questions that I had whatsoever. He gave me plenty of time for me to tell him of my “self diagnosis”, of which he answered every question that I had in medical terms that I could understand as well as asking me pertinent questions or of my condition, his description of my diagnosis as well as addressing my immediate status. I left his office feeling that all of my issues had been addressed and the testing he had ordered was appropriate. He seemed genuinely concerned about my health and I think he most likely treats all of his other patients with the same thoroughness, courtesy, and professionalism. I would highly recommend Dr. Unger.

Insanely long wait times
I’ve been a patient for a few years now and I’ve never had to wait LESS than 1 1 1/2 hours. Go somewhere else. Not worth it. Also Dr. Unger says his insurances makes him point out to patients when they’re overweight EVERY single visit.

Dr. Unger is always professional and knowledgeable. He is thorough and attentive throughout your visit. Though I may have to wait at times to go in the back I feel he is worth the wait. Every encounter I had with the nursing staff was friendly. Dr. Unger has been my doctor for 7 years since moving to FL and I would highly recommend him.

Went with my mother for for a 1030apt. Waited till noon. The waiting room was dirty and the staff a combination of rude, insensitive and lacking any empathy. I had to physically carry my mother into her wheel chair and out and no one bothered to offer her assistance. They then explained that our appointment and that they could not work us in despite working in a patient immediately after we checked in. No one from senior management would come out to see us. My mother actually cried. It was just a nightmare. I would not wish a visit there on my worst enemy.

Dr Unger took me on as a new patient and has been incredibly helpful and committed until I received accurate diagnosis’. Now I can be treated appropriately after years of “unspecified disease” I highly recommend him. I believe his office help doesn’t do him justice but I chose to choose my battles on that one.

I like Dr. Unger. His office staff, not so much. Their communication with the doctor is horrible. Mom had an “episode” that she never had before. Of course, I was upset. The staff sent him a note which he apparently doesn’t address till 6:30 pm. The next morning I called back and there was no message back from the doctor! I’m very upset!
