Want empathy? Search elsewhere. Dr Benjamin is a psychiatrist bred of the managed care era--only he doesn't take health plans! My former (deceased) psychiatrist was of the old school: He listened and took handwritten notes. Reverse that for Dr. Benjamin. If eye contact is a basic sign of rapport, it was missing. He speaks so low, you find yourself saying "What did you say?", "Huh?" Anyone who gave him more than a 2 for bedside manner (or warmth, if it was listed) is utterly insensitive. He knows his meds, but seems to be unable to match the person to them. He formulates a plan based on meager information, then sticks to it--and expects you to do so as well, although the med reaction is negative.

If you are interested in a Dr. who answers the phone and types during your appointment, he's your guy!! If you want half of your appointment time taken up by phone calls, this is the place for you!! The lack of respect he gives you is alarming. I would never recommend Dr. Benjamin to anybody!! Thankfully, he's retiring.
