Not a good experience
I had cataract surgery and developed complications after the surgery, I saw my Optometrist and she referred me back to Dr. Block . It was extremely difficult to make an appointment because Dr. Block said after several appointments that he did not know what to do about the complication and did not offer to refer me to another Doctor. I then went to my Family doctor and he saw what part of the problem was by just looking at my eyes! One of my eyes is turning towards my nose and he was angry that Dr. Block did not see this because it was obvious. My FAMILY DOCTOR is referring me to a Neurologic Optometrist. I would not recommend Dr. Block.

Dr. Block starting surgery for a 90 year patient, having her start intravenous and novocaine making her wait 3 hours to have cataract surgery, never to conduct the surgery because the correct lens was not ordered/delivered. He kept her waiting never telling her the wrong lens was ordered, rather he said he is waiting for it to come in. When I went to pick her up after the full 3 hours, 8 until 11 (I came at 10 thinking she was in recovery I waited 1 hour until 11) he told me the surgery was not conducted. He then told me the lens takes 10 days before the surgery, I was never told this before. At the consultation he told me to order 3 days before, when I called the assistant to order 3 days before, she never told me that the surgery had to be rescheduled because the lens takes 10days (someone lied). After all this occurred the office "tried" to reschedule her surgery with another doctor but I was told it had to wait 2 months, they never accommodated their error. Don't go to him!!!

At 67 years of age, I've been to a LOT of doctors, and believe me, all doctors are NOT equal. Some make serious mistakes, and then others, like Dr, Block, repair the damage! Dr. Block is brilliant, well educated, experienced, compassionate and concerned about each patient. He really cares about my vision. He's thorough, careful, explains everything clearly and answers ALL my questions. For 10 years, I've driven an hour to his Meriden office, even with hundreds of doctors in my vicinity!

While I think he is a capable dr. I feel he is personally more interested in making $$ having his patients return for multiple exams (he can charge insurance companies $150-250 per visit). The last time I was there his staff asked me why I was there (schedul'd to renew eye glasses prescription & get contacts). Instead of doing both while I am there he said he didn't have time to do my contacts and to schedule ANOTHER appt. Employees are always nice but he DOES NOT PUT PATIENT FIRST
