Terrible experience with Dr. Turnipseed and Roots Behavioral. Deeply troubling how callous the staff is for psychiatric practice. Please seek treatment elsewhere particularly during the covid-19 crisis. They do not seem to understand the mental impact of the living through a pandemic. Dangerous and careless.

I was treated very badly at his clinic. They really don't care about us, the most sensitive. As soon as you are not perfect client, they get rid of you without prescription and explanations. Also, they lied that Dr Turnipseed takes new patient, he will show up for 5 min, give you a small talk and you won't be able to see him again. Avoid this place.

I had very bad experience there. I was traumatized by their customer service. First thing: I was assured Dr T is taking new patients, but after getting there, I was told, he is not. Then, he came for 5min and assured me that I can change previous doctor as I was not happy with her. Unfortunately, he lied, as office manager said it's not allowed and they just refuse you as a patient without any help or understanding of the issue, even promised refills never reached the pharmacy. If you seek this kind of doctor, you know that medicine is very important and you can't miss few days/a week without it. It took me more than a week to get a new doctor and I was in a bad shape, thanks to Dr T team!

I wrote the review from Feb. 1, 2018. The response from the doctor's staff is nonsense. First, it doesn't address the fact that the doctor could have contacted the referring psychiatrist, as well as my therapist (both of whom Dr. T knows, to discuss his ill-founded paranoia. Second, if the doctor didn't think we were a good fit, he should have had the courage to tell me, rather than lying to my face and having a staff member do his dirty work.

It was impossible to get return phone calls when trying to set up an appointment. Initial appointments take a long time for them even to get back to you, and then they are months in advance. Once we did get through, they insisted my son must call to make his own appointments, but we couldn't get through to them. No other medical provider would refuse to make an appointment for a child, even an adult child. That is horrid if you have a loved one with serious depression. Go somewhere else.

I've had the best experience I've ever had with a psychiatrist at Roots Behavioral Health. The practice is run very efficiently. Between appointments, I've been able to contact Dr. Turnipseed easily through the patient portal. He is genuine, knowledgeable, and responsive to my questions. A humane and innovative psychiatrist who takes health insurance is not easy to find in Austin, so his schedule is very full. But I would definitely recommend him.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Turnipseed?
I was a patient at Dr Turnipseed's practice for two years, but I only saw him twice -- once for an initial 5 minute consultation, and once for another 5 minute consultation when there was a discussion about choosing between medications. The rest of the time I was seen by a physician's assistant. I find it deeply disturbing that I was being billed as if Dr Turnipseed was my provider (so they can get a higher hourly rate), when in reality I can't even remember what his voice sounds like.

I have been working with Dr. Turnipseed at Roots Behavioral Health for about 3 years now. During this time I lost my ability to work for a living, my Mother to Cancer, and my husband is diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer, undergoing his 2nd round of Chemo. It has been a very rough time and Dr. T. has been there for me every step of the way. His front office staff is extremely polite and always willing to go that extra mile when needed. And the office is growing so fast, they are definitely ahe

Dr. Turnipseed is one of the best psychiatrists I've seen, and I've seen many. He is caring, attentive, and open to a patient's own opinion as to their treatment options. He also stays abreast of the latest developments in his field. His front office staff is friendly and helpful. I once had to cancel an appointment at the last minute because of sudden illness, and they rescheduled me without charging me a fee.

Dr. Turnipseed seemed to be fine at first, but expect to be released from care if you dare miss an apt., or any other transgression. That is my experience regarding his care for my son. This is not good patient care!

Dr. Turnipseed is truly my opinion the best Psychiatrist. He patience, good listener, got his full attention and takes his time with you. Not on the computer or sitting at his desk. My daughter goes for treatment with Dr. Turnipseed and we are very pleased. He is a very professional and caring doctor. Extremely knowledgeable on medications and he truly cares for his patients. He really goes the extra mile to take care of patients' needs. If you email him at "Roots Behavioral Health" he responds promptly and addresses your issue. He has a beautiful spiritual aura and you are left with a "good" feeling after consultation. Anyone can sense that he has a beautiful soul.
