Knee and Shoulder
Dr Hess was great, he took ample time to discuss the problem and give options. My scheduling for myself along with my sons whom had surgeries from football injuries all were prompt and friendly. I liked best that if something wasn't in his wheelhouse he referred you to a specialist (hip, Hand, ankle) I'm not so sure these negative ratings on hip hand, or ankles are fair and accurate) he doesn't do those typically. So setting aside his ego to refer you to another specialist is admirable to say the least.

Dr. Hess Is the best doctor I’ve ever seen. He shows genuine concern for your medical problem and relates to you on a level you can understand. He treat you with respect and not a $sign. And, his work is excellent. No problems at all after five surgeries.

Absolutely no bedside manner. Very dismissive and becomes very impatient and annoyed. I was referred to him for chronic shoulder pain after an injury and he lied and said all imaging was normal and told me to go see a counselor because my pain was psychological. Received surgery from another surgeon and almost all of my shoulder pain resolved, but it has been made very clear that his failure to diagnose and dismissive behavior is the cause of my permanent, residual pain.

I went to see Dr. Hess for very bad hip pain. If it were possible to give him zero stars, I would. He did no assessment, did not view the joint, watch me walk, allow me to tell him about my symptoms or comment that while I do have other pain, this far exceeds all. After arriving home appalled at how poorly I was treated, I see that I have a visible bulge in my groin. I told him that I have groin pain along with my hip pain, which I do know is highly possible as I have been an ortho nurse myself!

--Not a very good listener --Gets very impatient if his recommendations are questioned --Definitely lacks a "bedside manner" / not personable --Makes diagnosis before asking any questions

I had rotator cuff surgery in July and had very little pain afterwards! My shoulder was a train wreck with two muscles completely torn and had to be pinned to the bone, two other partial tears, torn labrum, bone spurs and arthritis. I appreciate that he worked with me to get me back into racquetball. Nine months after sugery, I played in a racquetball tournament. I highly recommend Dr. HESS!

My son went to him for a probable stress fx in his foot. He did NOT do an xray and told him just to wear a pair of heavy work boots to work??? We cancelled our return appt, I purchased a cam boot from Amazon, and made a followup appt with another ortho a few weeks later. The new dr xrayed it immediately and said, Yes it was a definite stress fx of the metatarsal. This isn't our first time being unhappy with Hess' treatment but it will be our last.
