Dr. Ruwan Ratnayake, MD

I liked working with Dr. R a lot! The nurses and staff are all wonderful. Dr. R took the time to explain what my condition was and what was causing it. He also gave me options for treatment. Instead of rushing me into making a quick decision, he provided materials on the options and encouraged me to do my own research. He then allowed me the time I needed to choose the procedure that was best for me. This was also complicated by the fact that this was a Worker's Comp case. The staff made getting approvals very easy for me and took care of anything. I had my procedure on a Thursday and was released the following day. It took exactly as long as Dr. R had stated. He came out and reassured my family that everything went exactly as he had wanted. After 4 long years of not being able to ride in a car, walk without dizziness, and debilitating headaches, I'm finally able to have a life again! Go see him! You don't have much to lose, but so much can be gained!

Dr. Ratnayake took the time to LISTEN to my concerns and questions and answered them so I totally understood what I was about to undergo. He is a very compassionate man and takes time to make sure that I, as the patient, is comfortable! His staff is just as caring and takes time to explain follow up visits.

Dr. Ratnayake shared the recent X-ray with me and explained what it showed. I was convinced that the surgery was successful. I was confident that I made the right decision to have the surgery and very glad it was Dr. Ratnayake that did the surgery! He restored my quality of life!

After exhausting the remedies offered to me by NCSRA, I was referred to Doctor Ratnayake who proved to have a warm and welcoming manner. When found to be a candidate for decompression surgery, I quickly agreed to proceed. The procedure was immediately effective, eliminating those pains radiating down my legs. I am overjoyed with the result. I have returned to my yoga group, got back on the list for Loaves and Fishes volunteers, weeded my yard and joined a neighborhood exercise group, albeit not that skin tight spandex crowd. Must work on balance and stamina moving forward.Update: We'll be traveling soon, first by train, later on a road trip and in the fall, by plane and ship. These could not have happened without this wonderful outcome. I am so very grateful for Dr. Ratnayake's training and skill that relieved me of this pain. I'm no longer a bystander.

Dr. R explained everything in language could understand without 'talking down' to me, The surgery was extremely successful, as was the Intracept procedure he referred me to one of his partners for. I am finally free of years of almost crippling pain and feel like a whole new person. It's amazing!

Office staff was efffient providing paperwork consisting of comprehensive information regarding the surgery, appointments and patient expectations. Dr. R. explained procedures and aswered questions professionally and concisely. I was completely confident with his knowledge of the medical issues I was facing. Armed with this information about the doctor I was able to go forward with the surgery knowing it would have a positive outcome for me.

I was injured on the job and tried several other methods to relief pain before being authorized to see Dr. Ratnayake. During our first consultation he was very friendly and put me at ease. He reviewed in detail, my X-rays and MRIs, and my medical history. He is a great listener. He then proceeded to explain his findings and suggested procedures. He discussed advantages and concerns of each relative to my situation. Back surgery is serious business. My wife and I scheduled a 2nd visit with to discuss questions and other thought we had. Again, he was a great listener and put us both at ease while calmly discussing every detail on our list. The day of surgery went exactly as he had explained. He's discharge instructions were clear and specific. I was surprised how well I felt after surgery but under my wife's close attention, I followed the doctor's orders. The healing process went just as he said it would. He is a true professional and caring gentleman.

I went for my 2nd follow-up from my back surgery on 8/16/23. I no longer have any pain in my lower back and legs. The pain was so severe in my lower back and legs that it was almost crippling. Now I feel like I have a new lease on life. Dr. Ratnayake is not only a great surgeon, but extremely professional and personable. I wouldn't hesitate recommending him to anyone with back issues.

Dr. Ratnayake is an amazingly gifted doctor, and a remarkably kind, compassionate person. Please know I am not exaggerating when I say those things. Dr. Ratnayake does not just jump in to performing surgery, but rather, makes sure you’ve tried all other conservative methods first. He carefully listened to all my concerns, and answered them honestly and reassuringly. I had the XLIF surgery just about a year ago now, and I am thrilled to say I am enjoying a more active lifestyle and I owe it all to Dr. Ratnayake! I cannot say enough just how blessed I feel that he was my surgeon.I also want to acknowledge how wonderful and efficient his staff is! Shelby and Angie are so nice and very helpful. They were integral in the great care I received. I recommend Dr. Ratnayake every chance I get. You can feel confident with the excellent care you will receive.

Dr. Ratnayake always took the time to explain everything to us in detail. He made sure that we understood everything that was going to happen and was very kind through it all. While I hope I never need another back surgery, if needed, I would insist on going to Dr. R. Additionally, Shelby was wonderful and together they make a great team!

Dr Ratnayake was amazing...nice, personable, good bed side manner and educational. I loved that he was so attentive and made sure I understood everything going on. My results after my disc replacement over exceeded my expectations and I have been able to go back to my daily active life with little to no pain and I am able to move my arms again like normal! I was also impressed with my range of motion in my neck after surgery. Best decision I have ever made! I am so happy to be active again!!

I am a health care provider and I injured my back several years ago working in the hospital. I put off surgery for several years. I couldn't take the pain anymore and was referred to Dr. Ratnayake. He explained the surgery, recovery and projected outcome very well. Answered all my questions and even the detailed ones my boyfriend had. His bedside manner is awesome. I felt comfortable and safe right away and his follow up care was exceptional (same for everyone in his office). He even did an awesome suture job! He had to make an incision through one of my tattoos and you can barely see the scar! My surgery was life changing! Thank you Dr. Ratnayake!

After battling a hernaited disc for several years with conservative treatment and physical therapy, plus a bad car accident, I reached the point where the pain was debilitating and surgery was the only option. Initially, I was referred to another office, but couldn't be seen for over a month (not a great option). Dr. Ratnayake was able to see me within a week for a consultation, and even fit me in for surgery the following week! He was wonderful from the start -- competent, thorough, kind, everything you'd want from a doctor when you're experiencing horrible pain. I have no complaints whatsoever. Surgery went smooth, recovery has been great, and I have a new lease on life. As a healthcare patient, it's easy to feel ignored or just another number, but for the first time ever, I actually felt like I received VIP treatment here. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Ratnayake, and highliy recommend him to others in the same position.

Dr. R represents the best in modern medicine. He listens, asks the right questions, offers options to the patient for different treatments, allowing the patient to participate in the decisions for treatment. He is candid as well as empathetic. I had a severe sciatica problem and worked with him for 9 months before agreeing that surgery was the best option. After hearing many horror stories from others with the same problem, I was somewhat concerned about the possible outcome. He listened to all my concerns, addressed each one with facts and logic and gave me the comfort I needed to move forward. The outcome was amazing. He correctly diagnosed my problem (there are many reasons for sciatica) and fixed it with a delicate surgery that has me back to walking several miles a day with no pain at all. My goal was to get my active life back and that is exactly what he has helped me accomplish. I highly recommend him to anyone with any kind of back issue. Best Doctor Ever!!

Surgery was a complete success Everything went as planned and I no longer am experiencing lower back pain. and my gate has improved. I am in a better place today than I was a year ago.

I had a lower back issue for so long, but the cause or treatments were never explained to me clearly by all the other doctors. Dr. Ratnayake explained the current situation and the cause of it clearly and provided clean-cut options for the treatment. He was never pushy with his opinion and always ensured that I decided for myself with all the information available, which I greatly appreciated. The surgery went great, but I did have a reaction to the pain medication I was prescribed, which sent me to ER. My family and I were so surprised when he visited me in ER to ensure my back had no issue and the medication caused the condition strictly. I've never had a primary doctor or surgeon who got themself involved as much as he did, and I'm just in awe. He listened so well and addressed every concern that I had. I highly, highly recommend him!

Dr. Ratnayake was quick to schedule an surgical appointment and fulfilled his promised even during after hours. He have explained my back issue and explained to me the surgical process of it very carefully and in high detail. He has also listen and explain all of my concerns and overall extremely happy with him. I would highly recommend him!

Dr. Ratnayake, is patient, very sharp, and empathetic. He clearly explained my cervical condition and answered all my inquisitive questions. Many other surgeons are either not so patient or do not entertain engineers like me probing their diagnosis or approach. His humble, honest, and yet, confident approach put me at ease. He advised me pros and cons of surgery and when to time it. I fully trust Dr. Ratnayake as a superior surgeon and as a person.

I could tell Dr Ratnayake cared about me every step of the way. From the initial visit, ordering the MRI, to doing the surgery amazingly perfect and the follow up visits, I always knew he cared and had my best interest in mind throughout the entire process. My quality of life is so much better now, to say he is a hero of mine would be an understatement. I am so thankful he was my Surgeon.

After surgery I was so scared thought I would never be the same but it's Amazing how I feel and what a great job he did on my back I'm cback to work just after 3 months after surgery
