Dr Ryan Carlson was my surgeon for rectal cancer. He was very professional and competent. I would highly recommend Dr Carlson.

He was dine it is his after car nurse they think there the doctor I tell them that I am in pain and the tell me that they want to hold off on my pain medication especially after just getting out of surgery and I was in a lot of pain. They take forever to answer call bells. I see them at the computer or on their own personal cell phones not the work one. When you tell them something they don't want to listen. And that is the nurses on the 11th floor Regions Hospital. I felt like that the wanted like the were trying to hurry up and push me out the hospital instead of wanting to help me. I'm never going there again I will go to HCMC now on.

I had a complicated rectal cancer that required a multi-faceted approach. Many health professionals felt it was unlikely that I would avoid a permanent colostomy due to the location of the tumor. Dr. Carlson felt confident that he could avoid this outcome and performed the lengthy surgery with great skill. Not only did he avoid a permanent colostomy, but he removed all traces of the tumor and later performed my temporary ileostomy takedown surgery. It has been 4 months since my surgeries and I'm riding my bike, running and enjoying life again. My wounds healed up quickly and well and my bowel function was preserved. I am forever grateful to Dr. Carlson and recommend him highly.

Do NOT use Dr. Carlson. Our dad went in for what should have been a routine surgery to remove a small section of colon that had cancer cells. Dr. Carlson told us that there would be only a 1-3% chance of a hole happening during/after surgery. Unfortunately, a hole was discovered in his intestine 7 days after surgery when dad went into septic shock. He never did well post surgery and nobody could discover why. He was in SICU for 25 days. Dr. Carlson admitted that he caused the hole in the first surgery. In a subsequent emergency surgery to 'clean out the abdomen' he poked another hole, which was promptly fixed. Dr. Carlson said that dad was his biggest failure of 2019. Unfortunately this mistake is costing DAD'S LIFE. We hardly saw Dr. Carlson over the following 5 months when dad was in Regions Hospital due to COMPLICATIONS from his surgeries. He showed little compassion or comprehension to us for how much this has affected not only dad, but our entire families lives.

My father went in to Regions for what should have been a 5 day stay after surgery, but ended up being about 5 months due to a puncture to his small intestine. An emergency follow up surgery to correct the first one also resulted in another puncture that needed to be corrected, along with another surgery to attempt to correct issues. After going through all this HELL, my father has about a 2% chance of making it, and most likely won't make it. He had lots of life and dreams he wanted to live still. I wish I could give a negative star review. I cannot recommend Ryan M. Carlson, MD.

Never. He is so full of himself. His procedure has limited my mobility. He is not professional, calling himself the butt dr. He put a seton in me and it didn’t work. Wouldn’t remove it so now I am crippled. HP save us from this monster. I should have reported him to the state health board years ago. Please prevent him from maiming more women.

Terrible bedside manner. Isn't courteous. Doesn't take time to answer patients questions. Doesn't listen to concerns of family members caring for the patient. Withholding important information in regards to possible causes and screening of the problem, until pressed to discuss it. I do not recommend this doctor.

Awful experience w/ Dr. Carlson beginning when he walked in & said "Hi, I'm the plumber." During the pre-procedure he left the door open, told me that I was 50% more likely than average to get colon cancer and scolded me for not coming in sooner (although I came as soon as my doctor recommended and insurance would pay) and during the procedure he said "the meds SHOULD kick in by the time we get to your colon" and inserted the scope. The meds did not kick in!!!! He made me feel like livestock.
