Dr. Sabrina Drexel, MD

My complex hernia was repaired, via robotic surgery by Dr. Sabrina Drexel. This was a surgery no one in my native Montana would take on as I had three prior hernia repairs all which lasted less than two years. Dr. Drexel took the time and initiative to consult with other experts, found a prior surgery as complex as mine and came up with a blueprint. It was a long and difficult repair with hours of adhesions to be removed and many a surgeon would have been tempted to just open me up, but Dr. Drexel knew how I had suffered in the hospital for weeks at a time and once, to be on a wound vac for six months. So she persevered and it was successful. I left the hospital the next day. Instead of a six inch incision, I have a few small incisions on each side. I am so grateful to Dr. Drexel. Her integrity, compassion, surgical acumen made my life so much better. Always grateful!

Dr. Drexel performed robotic assisted surgery on my inguinal hernia, and everything went exceedingly well. In the initial consultation, she took time to thoroughly discuss all aspects of the surgery, explain what could go wrong, present the pros and cons of having it, and answer all my questions. We talked again before the surgery and at a follow-up visit. As I get older and have more contact with health care providers, my admiration soars, not only for their skills, but for their caring and kindness despite their heavy responsibilities and busy schedules. My experience with Dr. Drexel and her team confirmed that feeling. I was aware of the high regard Dr. Drexel has in her field, but what surprised me is how she made me feel like I was her only patient and all her attention was on me. Dr. Drexel is a very personable, cheerful and thoughtful doctor. She really listened to me and I could tell she is an expert in her field. I had a complicated recurring hernia that my doctor in Hawaii wanted to refer me to go to Oahu (I live on the Big Island). I didn't want to fly to another Island for an outpatient surgery. We were going to visit Oregon for a period of time so I decided to look online and find an expert hernia surgeon. Dr. Drexel checked all the boxes for me. I found it easy to get a timely appointment over the phone and schedule a surgery date that fit our time-frame while in Oregon. She listened to me and explained that she would do a robotic surgery, fixing the hernia, and the recti diastasis that could be part of the problem. She solved my problems the way she said she could. Dr Drexel is a kind and compassionate surgeon. She removed my gallbladder and provided excellent after care. Once home, I had a reaction to a medication that caused hives. She was immediately available to offer support and medication. She is warm and kind. She is committed to my healthy recovery. From the initial appointment when she explained her diagnosis - through the surgical procedure, she was always professional and reassuring. Her description of post-surgery recovery process was also spot-on. My procedure involved minimally invasive surgery and general anesthesia. However, I had no complications and was able to alleviate postoperative soreness without narcotics and even stopped taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen within 4-5 days. I had a very difficult hernia to fix and she did amazing! She was amazing from the beginning of the consultation to the end of the exam and to the follow-up. Popped in to see Sabrina after having a slight dull pain. I should note I don't like seeing the doctor or getting 20 referrals just to get my problem fixed. Sabrina immediately saw me and that I needed a small surgery which alleviated my concerns. We planned an invasive surgery at her small boutique spot in the Pearl. In and out and pain free. I had two failed hernia surgeries with lots of pain and discomfort and the surgeon who worked on me wouldn't go back in for a third time. I have had to wear a belt for several years now and resigned to my fate. After years of small bowel obstructions (11 in 3 years)due to overwhelming adhesions from bladder removal, I needed a surgeon that would take my case and reduce the adhesions. I saw surgeons from OHSU, St. Vincent’s and The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. They all said, “Hell No!” My internist said he had names of other surgeon’s that he was familiar with. I picked a woman, Dr Drexel. Met her and she quickly said she would be my doctor. That she could free up my adhesions using a robot. I felt relief I hadn’t felt in 4 years! After the 11th bowel obstruction she performed surgery several weeks later. She freed up my entire small bowel and I recovered in time for Xmas. I am beyond thankful. Today, I would like to share a little story about my experience with Dr. Sabrina Drexel. Dr. Drexel was the third doctor I saw to assess my Gastroparesis. You see, I also have cancer but I am stable now. So my case is severe. The two previous doctors just gave up and told me, all they could do is put in a feeding tube. By the time I got to Dr. Drexel my case had become dire. I had not been able to hold food down for three years. So, when I meet Dr. Drexel it was such a refreshing experience. She had a plan how she can try and treat my disease. Which was to try to repair and reverse some of my symptoms. I was in shock, a doctor with a plan and possible solution. In my case, we were not sure how it would turn out. We discussed it and decide to go with the feeding tube to start because I was malnourished. Let me express here, Dr. Drexel surgery worked. I no longer loose my food and my nausea is better. Dr. Drexel is the angel in disguise I needed. Talk to her first, you will not be sorry

Dr Drexel is one of the best Drs I have encountered in my 72 years. She was very personable & thorough explaining my procedure including drawing a picture for my initial visit. She made sure I had extra accommodations & time for my appointments & surgery beings we live over 100 miles from the hospital. She checked in with me & my husband before & after surgery, explaining the & process & answering questions we had. After surgery she checked to see how I felt & if I needed anything. The surgery went well, healing was fast, very minimal pain, & most less invasive type of surgery possible. Within a few days I was off all pain meds, up & about pretty much at our normal pace. Two weeks, totally back to normal, had a follow up visit with Dr Drexel & was released to fly out on vacation for the Winter. I had put surgery off for a year dealing with pain, meeting with Dr Drexel has given me my life back to enjoy.

My experience with Dr.Drexel was excellent. The initial appointment was established promptly. The diagnosis was definitive and the surgery was performed in such a manner so as to not require any pain medication after discharge from the hospital. No pain medication needed for a surgery of this type seems too good to be true. I believe it is a testament to the skills and commitment of Dr. Drexel to her patients. Additionally, Dr. Drexel has the unique ability to relate to patients in a professional and personable way that sets her far above her fellow colleagues. In addition to Dr. Drexel ,I salute the entire staff of St. Vincent Hospital for a job well done. I plan to have all of my hospital needs performed at St Vincent's.

I learned from friends who had not had successful hernia operations that things go best when you go to a doctor and center who specialize almost exclusively in Hernia surgeries. I found Northwest Minimally Invasive Surgery on the internet, and read the reviews. In my phone conversations, everyone was nice and took their time with me, so I decided to make an appointment, knowing I could go elsewhere if It didn't feel right. The office was super professionally run , It ran on time, no waiting, and Dr Drexel was great. She was super personable, knowledgeable and generous with her time. The surgery went well and the nurses confided in me how much they loved working with Dr Drexel (It was a surgery center so they work with a lot of different doctors). She performed the surgery flawlessly (not that i would 100% know since I was under) but I came out with minimal pain , did not need to go on pain medications beyond OTC's and I was back, close to normal in 4 days! 5 Stars

I came to Dr, Drexel for an evaluation on a hernia mesh repair from a previous procedure with a different doctor. Dr, Drexel was instrumental in guiding me through creating a step plan that would work best in my situation. After the procedure to correct the mesh went well, I am now free of pain and with complete confidence in a full recovery. Dr Drexel expertise is outstanding. In July 2022, Dr. Drexel performed a hiatal hernia repair for me. Dr. Drexel corrected a failing hernia repair previously performed by a different surgeon. The other surgeon left me with extreme pain and a very slow and difficult recovery. I was so fortunate to have found Dr. Drexel in 2022. The entire experience was night and day different from my other surgery. This time I was only in the hospital for two days, and by the time I left the hospital, I was not taking any prescription pain killers. I am certain that Dr. Drexel's patience, training, and skilled use of cutting-edge medical technology made all the difference! I had a very fast recovery, very tolerable pain, and was back to work only 5 days after the surgery. I am so thankful for Dr. Drexel and the wonderful care she provided. In mid-July of 2022, I found myself in the Emergency Room with an upper GI bleed. Tests revealed a stomach tumor, and surgery was necessary to stop the bleeding. To my incredibly good fortune, Dr. Drexel was in the hospital that day and became aware of my case and plight. She immediately took charge of my case. Her knowledge and expertise were, without a doubt, beyond reproach. Equally important, she was very personable and easy to speak with! She put me completely at ease with the outlined procedure, and I had complete confidence in her abilities to take care of me! My surgery was a success.
