Waste of time
Physical exam revealed to Dr. as a hamstring tendonitis. No testing (x-ray, MRI, etc.) done and physical therapy ordered. Second opinion was obtained, a torn meniscus was suspected. MRI ordered and shown to have 'extensive, complex, essentially full thickness tearing at the posterior root of medial meniscus', 'extensive marrow edema of the medial tibial plateau' and 'severe medial tibiofemoral compartment predominant osteoarthritis'.

My experience with Dr. Akhavan, from my first appointment, through my recovery, was excellent! I had MANY concerns. Dr. Akhavan put me at ease, immediately. He easily explained my condition and his ability to correct it, in detail, with confidence and patience. Throughout my recovery he treated the condition AND considered my needs as an individual. His bed side manner is exceptional. Additionally, his team exemplified excellent protocol. My every need was met with efficience; my surgery and recovery was a complete success. Highly recommended.

Suffering from severe knee pain, booked a 412-DOCTORS appt. recently. This doctor did not examine my knees at all to see if they had range of movement, feel the joints, or check my walking ability. They took 2 xrays; doctor ordered steroid injections; said I had severe arthritis. Have had moderate arthritis for years without issues. Did not go over x-rays to explain them. Left without saying he was done. No explanation of any new treatments or what to try next, just knee surgery. Did order PT.

Dr. Akhavan has been my knee Dr. For 9 years. He returns after hours calls. His staff work with me to order synvisc as soon as necessary, and address complaints or issues professionally. Dr. Akhavan's Physcian Assistant Jen is the best. I know I am in good care when she does my injections. Dr. Akavan switched or hired a new receptionist early on in my care after written complaint. Good Dr., who listens and takes action on complaints.

I had a great experience at Dr. Akhavan's office from beginning to end. His front end staff was very nice. My wait time was minimal. I have to disagree with some of the other reviews I have seen as Dr. Akhavan spent lots of time explaining my issue and his plan of care. He answered all my questions and when I forgot a few, I called back and left a message for his PA Jennifer. She promptly returned my call and answered my question. Great experience all around. Will recommend them highly!!!

Saw Dr. Akhavan today for shoulder pain. He did a quick test and told me the issue was my neck and referred me to someone else for therapy. But my shoulder is in a lot of pain. He was in such a hurry to get out of the room I didn’t get any time to ask any questions at all so I left even more confused. What a waste of time and $40 copay.

Didn't listen to me, dismissed my chief complaint and referred me to another doctor in the practice for unrelated issue. Still have knee pain and numbness. Told me I have 2 things that I don't have, which he would have known had he bothered to listen to me. Very disappointed.

Dr Akhavan was recommended by an acquaintance and we are very satisfied with the results of the surgery. I had torn meniscus and was quite in pain. Dr Akhavan performed the corrective procedure at AGH. He, his PA (Jennifer) and all his office staff were very professional, explained everything and answered all my questions. They also coordinated all appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and post operative care in a timely, friendly and efficient manner. Great location too.

This physician does not educate patients as to the reasons why they are having pain. He does not communicate to the patient a plan of action and what side effects may occur and what the prognosis will be. In other words, he leaves the patient mostly in ignorance to find answers through the internet. It is not enough to smile and shake hands. He also doesn't believe in numbing injection sites and seems shocked that injections cause pain.
