Shoulder replacement
I had a shoulder replacement by Dr. Lozano’s predecessor in 2011, caused by 3 rounds of radiation therapy for the 4 tumors I developed between 1995 and 2001 destroying the bone. In 2021 I had an infection in the shoulder due to a cancer. He and Dr. Elhassan removed the prosthetic and the badly radiated skin as well as the cancer. I have had 5 surgeries since, primarily caused by continuing infections and scapular damage from radiation. Another surgery upcoming, Dr. Lozano has worked with engineers to design an entirely new device for me. I have complete faith in him. He has been open and honest, if sometimes maybe overly optimistic. Yes, we sometimes have to wait as well at appointments, I assume because he does not rush his patients . He spends much more time with us than his predecessor ever did. We travel from Maine to see him, the surgeon I had locally wanted to amputate in 2000. As a side note, MGH hospital food is mostly terrible.

Always up to date with newest treatments
My most recent procedure involved total hip replacement, stabilization of a spinal fracture and pelvic areas of weakness caused by cancer. My back and pelvis pain was immediately relieved by the procedure. I recommend getting Dr Lozano's opinion for any cancer-related orthopedic problems.

Ego on legs
Do you want your physicians to respect your humanity? I don’t think this guy does. He is incredibly ambitious but does ambition come at a cost to his patients? I’m not altogether certain it doesn’t. This man treats people who are in the kind of pain that is likely to be exacerbated by sitting for prolonged periods yet he routinely keeps his patients waiting for over 2 hours — even those with morning appts. At the minimum, he should at least get a clue that he cannot work at the same tempo his scheduling department schedules his patients. The solution in the best interest of his patients would be to allow more time. I don’t think he would consider that in his best interest and therefore, it’s unlikely he would make that decision. Does he communicate well? Let’s just say my hematologist dubbed him “Dr. 100%” for promising a 100% positive outcome to surgery. Seriously, 100%. Who does that? Oh yeah, he’s an investigator on the device he planned to implant so maybe that was a rh

Happy I was referred to him!
He knew immediately what I had. North Shore doctors and MRI did not. He was professional but compassionate and caring. He explained everything and put me at ease. Highly recommend him.

It is hard for me to convey my deep appreciation to Santiago-Lozano-Calderon. Within one week he addressed a rare tumor on my hand and removed it to perfection - it was not easy and I was very nervous about losing my hand and function. The experience was top notch and the recovery exactly as he conveyed - and yes, I did agree to give up golf for 2021.... :-). Thank you Doctor Santiago-Lozano-Calderonand and your entire staff - MGB and team are very special people and we are so grateful to have you within our community - Please stay well....DK

Dr. Lozano is a very skilled surgeon. He is friendly, answered all my questions and took the time to listen to my concerns. The only thing, is that he is very busy and I always have to wait a lot past my schedule appointment.
