I am great and my sciatica pain is gone after Dr. Scott Spann at the Westlake Orthopaedics Spine & Sports performed lower lumbar surgery. So much so that I broke my foot 6 months after back surgery and who did I turn to again. Dr Scott Spann and his team have done a great job on my back and foot I can’t say enough. I recommend this group to anyone.

Dr. Spann is an excellent surgeon. He spent time with me answering my questions in a detailed way that I could understand. My appointment did not feel rushed and the amount of time he spent was beyond anything I have experienced. He uses visual cues and analogies that make complex issues more understandable. Everyone on his surgical team was great and so was my experience. I would highly recommend Dr. Spann.

I saw Spann for back/leg pain (MRI: slipped L4 vertebra & stenosis) and he offered XLIF (fusion) as an indirect decompression. My experience of him did not provide the confidence needed to move forward, however, I did try a stem cell treatment to see if I could obtain some relief and it didn't. It was my overall experience that Spann doesn't listen to patients as he's too busy selling his services and as they say in Sales, 'if you telling, you aren't selling.' No sale here!

I have been seeing Dr. Spann for over a decade. I suffered from back pain for over 20 years. When I moved to Austin a friend of mine recommended Dr. Spann. He performed lumbar spine fusion in 2010 and I healed beautifully. Since then I have had cervical spine surgery and it also healed beautifully. He is a caring doctor and a wonderful surgeon.

I've been seeing Dr. Spann for over a decade, through two extensive back surgeries. He has always listened to my symptoms and needs, and done his best to improve my quality of life. He is responsive, and genuinely cares about improving my situation.

Results: successful 12-mo. check-up after minimally invasive lower lumbar fusion (three incisions, titanium rods and screws), the second fusion Dr. Spann & his crack team performed on me over the last 2 yrs. Prior to the surgery, I had extreme pain (unable to walk from sciatic pain, "recliner-ridden" for 4 wks). Dr. Spann provided options, straightforward analysis & reassurance. I expected top-notch diagnostic/surgical care, & got it. Up & walking without pain the day of surgery, brisk recovery (stick with the PT: ATI staff in the same office were brilliant). What I didn't have any reason to expect was the personal commitment by Dr. Spann, his ass't Amy (can't remember her last name), and his phenomenal PA-C, Joseph Hagen. This team was available 24/7 (especially Joseph) prior to the surgery & post, advocating for me w/ insurance, fine-tuning meds in the meantime, and checking in with real interest for 12 mo of follow-up. Team & front office were supportive, professional, competent.

My husband had surgery for Osteomylitis and diskitis which destroyed his disk. It was caused from an infection. Another Doctor performed the first surgery and it failed. The first Doctor told him to go home for complete bedrest for 2 to 4 months. After one we called our heart Doctor and he found us Dr Spann! Today it has bedn six weeks and my husband has been pain free and recovering from the long weeks of bed rest prescribed by first surgeon. If you are having pain in your back, shoulders and legs you need to schedule an appointment with Dr Scott Spann!

I stopped seeing Dr. Spann because he doesn't listen to his patients. His office ordered unnecessary procedures - an IV was started on me because his office ordered it and it wasn't used for anything. I paid over $1000 for an EMG test in his office and haven't been able to get the records. They said they mailed them to me but they never arrived. The Westlake Hospital where he does outpatient procedures overcharged me approxamately $1500 and I'm working on getting my money back which is a major hassle. To top it all off the insurance claim he submitted for a three level fusion was rejected by my insurance company due to insufficient diagnostics. This happened after I decided to stop seeing him but it's just another failure. I'm seeing another orthopedic surgeon now and the experience is so much better and I made the right decision to stop seeing Dr. Spann.

Dr Spann does not listen to his patient, he looks at the MRI and says "we all have tears." I told him I can't sit for more than a couple minutes without pain and I can't lift more than 20lbs. He said "go live your life." The problem is my life consists of lifting more than 20 lbs and sitting 8+ hours in a day for work.

He caused me unnecessary pain for 7/8 months through mid-diagnosis of an error in his fusion of my spine. He recommended hip replacement to alleviate the pain in my hip and spine which did no good. Over about 7 months I visited his office 7 times complaining about high pain. Each time he said it was a hip problem, refusing to own up to a surgical error on his part. He didn’t recommend an MRI to locate the pain source. A pain MD had to do what Dr. Spann should have done. Very poor at listening.

Dr Spann is only available on Friday s the rest of the week he is doing surgery. I had arthroscopy on my knee March 22 and I am in worse pain 3 months later. He diagnosed me with a very rare PVNS and provided no relief except saying he would refer me to a radiologist. I went for a second opinion at AR Orthopedics and three doctors dismissed the PVNS theory. Did not even need the surgery . AND they charged me $25 for my own records! Then they bill incorrectly so what was paid for last year is

After a previous surgery, continued pain, progressive leg weakness and years of going to pain management I had lost hope of ever feeling good. I saw Dr Spann at the urging of a family member and the surgery he completed instantly relieved 10 years of leg pain! Wish I had found him sooner!!!

I had resigned myself to living with my painful back and resulting leg muscle soreness along with a numbing foot and lower leg. I couldn't walk or stand more than 15 minutes then I'd have to either bend from a standing or sitting position to relieve the nerve pressure and get the feeling back in my foot and leg. I heard about this amazing surgeon and from the moment I spoke to him the first time I knew he would work miracles on my back. L2-S1and released a nerve. No more numbing. Amazing results

I had a fusion of my lower lumbar. L4/L5 &L5/S1 with Dr. Spann almost exactly 3 months ago and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!!! I am amazed and so thankful to him and his excellent team. I just wish I hadn't waited SO long... I was so scared after reading about the recovery time and pain-- but it actually was a breeze for me. NOT KIDDING.. All of my appts, surgery etc all went like clockwork. He was caring and personal too. Feel blessed and thankful to have found him. I HIGHLY recommend him-
