The worst doctor we've ever met
We agree with his other patients' reviews. He was the worst doctor we've ever met. He has no sympathy for his patients. He didn't review my husband's records before he came to the room. He assumed what my husband was struggling with and his assumption was incorrect. My husband asked him for help, but he told us there was nothing he could do. We felt rushed the whole time. It was obvious that he wanted to end our conversation to move to another patient. The total appointment time with him is approx. 15 minutes. We should have trusted other reviews but hoped it wouldn't be in our case. We wasted time and money.

Nice guy, but not the best urologist for me
Dr Van Appledorn appears to have an 'attitude' about treating older (72yr) patients. I had a large bladder diverticulum and enlarged prostate. Using intermittent cath, after waiting 2-1/2 mo for a followup appt I experienced 7 UTIs. I requested surgery to remove the diverticulum with the hope of recovering some bladder function. He declined, saying he did not think surgery would benefit me, just get used to self-cath and expect UTIs. A second opinion provided by a Urologist at UW Medical center was to provide surgery for bladder and prostate. Still recovering from surgery two days ago, so final outcome is not known, but the second urologist is optimistic about recovering some bladder function.

Poor Patient Communications
Post-op visit for bladder cancer excision. Treated me like an inconvenience. Very poor interpersonal skills. Pretty typical for a surgeon but you can do better if you want to be treated with compassion and empathy.

I was treated by him for URI. When I continued to have pain on urination and urge to urinate, he refused to call me back; his nurse said she would relay information back and forth. I went to the emergency room with pain now also in my back and was treated and cured with IV antibiotics.

He was able to save my dads kidney function through a series of procedures for an impacted stone. At fist I was not sure about all of this for an 83 year old but Dr Van Appledorn put together a plan with enough time for dad to recover. It was a very tough treatment with three separate procedures and a nephrostomy tube while balancing blood thinners over 6 weeks. He spent time with me as dads caregiver to make sure I knew what was going on and answered all of my questions. I would recommend him for treatment

After extensive prostate issues under the care of another urologist who was ineffective I sought care from Dr Van Appledorn. He was very courteous and professional and diagnosed my problem promptly. He carefully explained the ramifications of a full prostatectomy. I was scheduled for surgery March 5th. Due to Covid-19 @ Evergreen my surgery was postponed until March 23rd and canceled again as Evergreen had shut down elective surgery. i was finally operated on May 5th. During this time he and his staff were exemplary in the care they provided to me. In addition to Dr VanAppledorn being a top notch urologist and surgeon his staff may be among the most compassionate and caring healthcare providers I have ever experienced. I cannot say enough about the excellent treatment I received from Dr Van Appledorn and his staff. I am thankful there are caregivers of this caliber providing urology services in our community.

Scott Van Appledorn is very unprofessional. After poorly explaining how my procedure could be complicated. On cases like mine he said, "I just cut open the testicle and dug through the layers till I figured this had to be it". He then continued to try and scare me out of something I already decided to do. Then told me he could do it. Two days before he has cold feet, states he cant do it, and cancels on me after I made arrangements. Ill just put my life on hold for 3 more months. Avoid Him.

Dr. Van Appledorn's general demeanor was a bit abrupt, but more disappointing was his rough physical handling during the procedure. He also failed to provide adequate anesthesia to the affected area, causing unnecessary pain and didn't bother to communicate what to expect as the procedure proceeded, causing moments of shock. His bedside manner was disinterested and dismissive. I would not recommend this provider, particularly since this common procedure (vasectomy) can easily be done elsewhere.

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February 2013 and doing surgery scheduling as my profession, I had no doubt who my surgeon would be. He was extremely thorough about explaining what my procedure, prognosis and recovery would be. I have seen him for check-ups and he continues to be caring and willing to answer any question I may have. Without a doubt, I would recommend Dr VanAppledorn to anyone!

Dr. VA has been a spectacular physician for me. He spent considerable time with my wife and I discussing my treatment options, what the care would look like and took time to answer all of our questions in a kind and supportive manner. He shared the most current complex information in a clear and easy to understand manner. From my initial meeting, biopsy and diagnosis, through my surgery and aftercare, Dr. VA has been the caring, compassionate and technically brilliant surgeon we all hope to have

I'm a physician and have worked with many excellent urologists. I chose Dr. Van Appledorn as my own personal surgeon because he is not only skilled and talented technically, but also because he is a compassionate listener who takes however much time is necessary to understand his patients as people and fully explain their treatment options. For all these reasons and more, Dr. Van Appledorn is tops on my list!

Dr. Van Apple Dornan left us high and dry. 4 years later, still learning how to cope with major nerve damage and little to no hope of recovery. Heartbreaking. The only advise given was to see a pain specialist. Oh, and if you don't feel better in a year, well...that's too bad, you'll be living with the pain until you die.

I waited six weeks for an appointment with Dr. Van Appledorn. A few days before the appointment, his staff called to inform me that was was going to have an emergency three days in the future. When I called, the staff was rude and abrupt. I left a voice mail and of course I have not heard back from them. So with blood in my urine now for weeks, this doctor has a planned emergency ??? Really an emergency three days in the future???

Had operation by Dr. Van to check for cancer in the tube to right kidney and reported to have low grade, non-invasive urothelial carcinoma. Have had extensive bleeding showing up frequently when peeing even three weeks later. Dr. Van does not know what he is doing or does it poorly! My opinion is that I equate him to a butcher!!!
