Dr. Shawndra Barker, MD

Been at this office for several years, the staff has always been great. First visit with Dr Barker Nov. 2024 went very well, like Dr Barker, I will continue to see Dr Barker.Recommended Dr. Barker and this Dr Office.

After moving here and going to Dr Barker for 3-4 years think I am looking for a new doctor. She was nice and listened at first but now that I have more serious physical issues, doesn’t listen, I guess because I see quite a few specialists? I fell last summer and have been dealing with major back pain issues since then. Am still seeing neurosurgeon and pain clinic. Last visit she told me, “well you’re going to be -age- soon and you will just have pain the rest of your life.” As if I did not know I am old and already in pain, and if I were like some people, I might have gone home and sat in my chair and done nothing, since there was no hope for me. Fortunately that’s not me. This is the second time she “reminded” me of my age….told her to not mention my age again. She basically could have taken away any hope that I could improve. That is the part that convinced me that I need someone with more empathy and someone who gives hope, while being realistic. I did not get that from her.

My visit was scheduled for 8:20am and I arrived at 8:25am due to road construction and she refused to see me although the office has a 10 min grace period & I was very sick. She had no idea how sick I was, nor did she care. I can’t say I received poor care, or any care from her, as she refused to see/care for me.

Dr Barker reviews all test results and previous office visits with any of my doctors and up to date with information before entering my room— she also knew my upcoming appts with other providers. Makes me feel like I’m the only pt she has. More docs should spend that extra time to know what’s going on with their pts.

After seeing the same doctor for 35+ years, I worried about finding a new doctor. However, there was no need to be concerned. Dr. Barker is so understanding, so easy to talk to, and explains things well. I also love her staff, Laura, Steve, and Tara. I hope those names are right!

I made an appointment as a last attempt to get some help from her office after calling and waiting for several weeks and not receiving a reply to the questions I left in my voice message. She half-heartedly conducted an exam with a cold, callous demeanor. She doesn't ask questions. I start to offer information, she argues with me about my own health history, and she treats my complaints with suspicion! This was only the second time I've seen her. I start to cry and she becomes angry, moves toward me and stands over me while raising her voice as though she's speaking to someone that is hard of hearing, which I'm not and she knows it. It seemed to me she was trying to escalate an encounter as an excuse to no longer see me. Dr. Barker is the most unprofessional doctor I've had the misfortune to visit. I have never had a doctor treat me this way before.

100% recommend Dr. Barker she wonderful! Smart, talented and truly cares about her patients. Would trust all my family and friends in her care!
