Arrogant and doesn't care about her patients!
She prescribed pain medicine that I was allergic to - twice! Then she wouldn't answer her phone/pager for three days after my surgery, so I had no pain medicine that I could take, and I was throwing up from the one I was allergic to. It was the worst experience of my life!

I have been under the care of Dr Sheila Garvey for 11 years. I was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer in August 2008. I feel blessed to have received the "top surgical skills" of Dr Garvey and an excellent oncologist during this most challenging time of my life. I have always looked forward to my follow up visits with her. She is always upbeat, optimistic and caring. Her door is always open.

Dr Garvey is amazing. I have worked with Dr Garvey for more than 15 years through precancerous monitoring, cancer surgeries, chemo and radiation, and post cancer monitoring. She has always been a stabilizing and consistent support. She has always provided the information and available options to help guide treatment decisions.

In January my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer and he was referred to Dr. Garvey for colon resection surgery. We saw Dr. Garvey for a consultation prior to surgery and we both were impressed with her no nonsense yet compassionate explanation of what to expect before, during and after surgery. We found her to be a highly skilled surgeon, a good communicator and very professional throughout the whole process. Also her office staff were very pleasant and helpful. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for any of our appointments.

Dr. Garvey was who my doctor referred me to for a biopsy due to a mass in my breast. She hadn't read my chart before chastising me for not having routine mammograms done. I am under 40 and insurance doesn't cover it yet. So, she starts the exam and immediately tells me I have Inflammatory Breast Cancer...WHAT? Biopsy results did not show this, and she was very wrong! Not professional or educated to make that diagnosis...I did have BC, however, much less scary and more easily treatable.

I won’t share details for privacy reasons, but I will never recommend Dr. Garvey. She realeased someone close to me from the hospital way too early because she had been treated for her primary condition and there was nothing more Dr. Garvey could do for her. 24 hours later we were back in the ER where we were told she should have never been released.

I went to Dr. Garvey after I had been told over the phone that I had breast cancer, as per my biopsy results. Avi My first impression of Dr. Garvey was that of an overworked, disgruntled, incredibly negative individual that sapped every amount of hope that I attempted to hold on to. She began by telling me that she doubted that I'd qualify for Medicaid, and that my financial concerns were not her problem. She made me feel as if I were destined for death. Avoid this person at all costs.

Where to begin... The fact that I almost died is the ringer. Sent home without antibiotics 3 days after a colon surgery in which I was told I would be in the hospital for at least a week, was rushed into emergency surgery after the first failed because my colon wasn't completely sealed and had a major infection. After she did the second surgery she was going to release me after 3 days when I had a raging infection in my abdomen. The nurses went up the chain to override her and saved my life!

We will never take foot anywhere near her office again. If you want to be talked down to, feel like you are annoying for anything you ask, then go to her and work with her office staff. They might even make you cry. We have never been treated with such unprofessionalism and inconsideration.

Dr Garvey is exactly who I wanted on my side when I was facing the unknown. Her skills, experience, and direct communication helped me know and feel that I was in good hands. I highly recommend her! She may come across as though she lacks emotion, but she does not!! Her job is to be factual and truthful so there are no questions. She does not sugar coat, but she does empathize. I'm so grateful to have her In my corner!

Once I had my surgery she was no where to be found. I get it was a "routine" surgery for her, but no surgery is "routine" for the person is getting the surgery. I was scared and in pain and received little to no help after. I ended up in the ER because I couldn't even get her office to call me back after being elbowed in the surgical site. I will NEVER go back to her.

Dr. GARVEY treated me for 7 broken ribs and lung and liver contusions, as well as 10 fractured vertebrae that came as a result of being bucked off of a horse. I appreciated her no nonsense approach. She was direct and to the point. I found her to be an excellent surgeon.

Dr. Garvey is thorough and efficient. She saved my father's life. He had pancreatitis and she was the er on call surgeon. She took unbelievable care of him. She spoke with him honestly and sternly and told him what he had to do to recover. He recently had pancreatitis again and Dr.Garvey is here for him again. We know she will be straight forward and tell him what he has to do to be healthier and gain strength back. He respects her candor and trusts her advice and instructions.
