The Best Endocronologist
Dr. Scumpia is located in a different area of Texas than where I live so I gladly travel 5 - 6 hours just to see her because she is amazing. She is the best doctor that I have seen, she is very thorough and analysis the most important things and she quickly figured out what was going on me and took action. I am very grateful to her, she saved my life because in my area they failed in my medical care and didnt tell me I had thyroid cancer but this Dr did vital testing and she found the cancer and got me to the right Dr for the cancer care and that is why my cancer was removed and I am still here, now she is still my doctor that takes care of my thyroid levels and Thyroid levels are extremely difficult to figure out and she was able to figure mine out and has kept me on the correct meds which is very important to me for my health and well being, I am forever grateful to Dr Scumpia for cautious care it is because of her extensive testing and cautious care that I am here forever grateful!

Most frustrating practice ever, they are always overbooked, and appointments are mostly consumed by wait time. Staff calls to reschedule appointments all the time, and when you call to reschedule, you can leave a message which they never return. Or sit on the phone for hours, listening to music, then it will ring, and back to music, returning you to the prompt to leave a message. Then they deactivate your portal access, and send you a letter saying you are an inactive patient. And your only option is to call and wait multiple hours multiple times to get to someone. I suggest going somewhere else. Seems like all this practice cares about is packing the office with patients and billing units so they can maximize the charges.

Dr. Scumpia and her crew are tops in medicine
I have been going to Dr. Scumpia's for several years and I credit that for my good health. They keep track of every test that needs to be administered, every medicine that should be taken, plus they have an excellent lab on site. I trust them.

I have been a patient for over 30 years. She has treated my rare and complex endocrine condition in a superior manner. In addition she has an excellent on-site lab as well as bone density testing, thyroid scans, liver scans and a multitude of other in-house services. Her PA is excellent as well as all of her other providers on-site. Having everything in one place allows for seamless treatments and it saves a great deal of time. I love Dr. Scumpia!

Very Thorough
I am seeing Dr Scumpia for osteoporosis. She is taking care of that but also ordering tests that I didn’t know I needed. She is very proactive. At my age -73 - I’m glad to have a doctor looking beyond the immediate problem.

Been going for 19 years and I have to get ready for the most negative office except for 1 person and the lab. First person you check in with hates you walked in, the guy that comes and gets you for ultra sound is not too glad you are there. Most negative interaction. Alexia was very nice and helpful but you better hope scrumpia doest walk in.

She is a bot for the medical industrial complex
I went to Dr Scumpia for my thyroid condition after moving to the area. I am healthy, except for my thyroid condition. Dr Scumpia became rude and hostile when I explained to her that I don’t do the routine screenings she wanted me to do; that I seek treatment only when I have symptoms. She rattled off heath risk statistics to me, as if I am a statistic and not an individual, then actually asked me if I gained my perspective by consulting Dr Google. She practices medicine by fiat, following protocols by the medical organizations to which she belongs instead of practicing according to the individual needs of her patients. Her hostility toward patients who don’t fall in line with the recommendations of the AMA or the AACE reflects her inability to think critically and independently, as well as her inability to view each patient as an individual with individual concerns instead of as a percentage or a statistic. She wants to control patients rather than to partner with them.

She is lacking in a bed side manner for sure. I think she is a good doctor, but I just did not feel comfortable with her at all. She hardly looked at me and only read her notes on the computer. Then perscribed different medications to choose from then come back in 2 weeks and let her know which one I chose. I am looking for a new doctor, I know I would not ever be happy with her

100% WORTH IT!!
Dr Scumpia is an absolute genius. She uses real, current, directly observable tests to form science-based diagnosis and she does not rely on faulty opinions from previous caregivers. She personally evaluates every patient, which is an enormous feat considering how many Austinites are affected by endocrine issues and fill her waiting room daily. Some reviews complain that she is not chatty or friendly enough, but I do not care about seeing her for a friendly visit over tea. I want her to help me save my life and for that she is 100% the specialist I want on my team. Her advice is not easy, but it is worth it. She does not withhold truth so if your fragile ego is more important than fighting the insidious disease of diabetes, you will struggle, but if you KNOW this going in and can take the professional expert advice, she is WORTH IT! She has helped me go from 240 lbs and A1c 10+ to 160 lbs and A1c 5.5.

Dr. Scumpia is absolutely one of the best doctors.
Yes, she does a lot of tests but I think that is great. Saves me from having to go to several doctors. If she finds something suspicious and she doesn’t treat it she will send you to someone that knows what to do. She sent me to my cardiologist just in time! She saved my life because I was having a heart attack. Never in a million years would I have thought I had heart issues. She found that I also have nodules in my thyroid. Dr. Scumpia is very through and will not send you home. She will definitely find out what is wrong and why it’s happening. My son also agrees with this review. As far as smiling, we get smiles from her! I highly recommend Dr. Scumpia!!

She's not for me
I used to be a patient of Dr Scumpia for several years and finally left to find a better physician. I didn't care for her dismissiveness and bedside manners. Once I went to see her for my annual checkup and told her I was sick and on antihistamines. My heart rate was higher than usual and ask her if it could be from the antihistamines. She dismissed me and said no. She then sent me to a cardiologist for more tests instead of having me come back to have my heart rate rechecked after I was off the antihistamines. Everything checked out fine and when I ask my primary physician, she said yes the antihistamines could raise my heart rate and that she had heard from others that weren't happy with Dr Scumpia. I am much happier with my new doctor!

Dr. Scumpia
I went to Dr. Scumpia for my Hashimoto's disease. I know a lot of people say she runs too many test but if she hadn't run the test, they wouldn't have found my heart issues. I thank God for her!!!! Everyone I have come in contact with in the office area has been very professional.I read all the reviews before I chose Dr. Scumpia to be my Doctor. I appreciate the comments about her ....she's not rude. She is very professional and if you want a doctor that is going to give you a feel good , happy feeling when you visit her, then you don't want a doctor who is serious about your health.Once you get to know her you will enjoy her!!!

Caring and professional office
This is a professional clinic with caring staff. Dr. Scumpia takes time to go over the diagnosis clearly and treatment options. I had a medical issue that needed immediate attention. Dr. Scumpia called the referral doctor and got me in right away. She saved my life. I respect and value her care. As for her bedside manner, I liked her candor and straightforward manner. I didn't go for a friendly visit. It was refreshing to find someone that would listen and follow up with expertise and understanding. I can't thank her enough. Without her intervention, I would have had a stroke or worse.

Not for the faint hearted
Dr. Scumpia may have impressive credentials, and she may appeal to those patients who have no feelings, but if you are at all of a sensitive nature, stay away from this doctor. I’m a 69 year old woman, a cancer survivor, and I went to her after having a total knee replacement 5 weeks ago. My surgeon was concerned about “soft bones,” so I was sent to this endocrinologist. Not truly knowing what to expect, my husband drove me across town to meet with Dr. Scumpia. Quite frankly, she scared me to death from the onset. Her demeanor and her presence are in need of some compassion. I understand that doctors are not there to be “our friends,” and as a retired teacher of high school students, I can certainly understand that point. However, she treated me, in my opinion, like someone who was robotic in their thinking. No compassion; no smiling; no pleasantries; no feeling at all. I’ve been to many doctors in my life, but I truly have never run across one like her. I won’t return.

Dr. Scumpia is an excellent, professional doctor and doesn’t sugar coat anything. I went to see her for thyroid issues she immediately ordered scans lab work. She explained everything that she was going to do to me. She also ordered a calcium heart test on which it was abnormal she immediately notified me of results and referred me to a cardiologist. If it wasn’t for her to take time and do her job very well I would have never known that on top of thyroid problems I was also having heart issues. I Thank you Dr Scumpia for going above and beyond .
