Dr. Sonata Cooper, MD

In 2022 I had my first child. My midwife didn’t come in because she saw Dr. Cooper was on call and knew that they butt heads and she wouldn't be able to support me with Cooper present.Dr. Cooper never made eye contact with me, told me to stop screaming from the pain, argued with my doula, answered phone calls while in my room and overall did not give me the time of day. I was her only patient and she could not have cared less about me. I cried and begged her for any type of support and got nothing. She was unprofessional and heartless. She was also unsupportive of me and my birth wishes. She made me start pushing too early so I ended up pushing for 3 hours. If you want a doctor who will listen to you she is not it. 2 years later and the entire experience still haunts me. The terror I felt at being left in someone’s hands who obviously had better things to do, like talk on the phone, will never leave me.

Dr. told me I was going through a miscarriage when I still had a heartbeat. Refused to see me after a hospitalization. Missed an abnormal hematoma. If you can, stay away from this entire practice.

Missed ectopic. I had cramping and bleeding for 2.5 weeks so I made an appt. I explained all of my concerns to Dr. Cooper and they did an HCG blood test. The results took a week to receive. I was told it was a chemical preg and brushed off, told to come back for an annual in 2 weeks.. even though I still had bleeding, cramps, and DARK positive home preg tests after the HCG results came in. My gut told me this was not normal and I told them that. If I waited for this office to do another blood draw, if they even did one because who knows, at my annual, I would have wasted an additional 3 weeks and literally spent an entire month with a condition that is a ticking time bomb. Luckily another office recommended by my primary: Dr. Faust, Dr. Sharma, and Dr. Maniu took my concerns extremely seriously and ordered recurrent blood draws and 3 intrauterine ultrasounds. Confirmed PUL, received MTX, and am on the mend. Also Dr. Cooper and Dr. Jean LOVE to prescribe antibiotics without urinalysis.

Very pleasant, professional and attentive. Took her time to answer all my questions. Excellent doctor.

In 2018, I gave birth to my child at St Barnabas hospital and I met Dr. Cooper during my post-partum time. I recalled telling her that I was in a great amount of pain and that I was very uncomfortable, to which she replied, “Well, you’re not in a spa”. I was disappointed and stunned that she made that insensitive comment. I had fever and extreme body pain symptoms and soon found out that I had an infection. It’s 2021, and her blatant lack of empathy and attentiveness will always stay in my memory.
