Dr. Stephen Miller, came in to do my discharge and prescribe pain medicine to send me home with. He wanted to prescribe hydrocodone (an opiod). I told him it made me sick. He said he would prescribe an anti nausea medicine to use with it. I told him I would rather not take a narcotic and requested Ibuprofen 800 mg. This is probably one of the reasons people get hooked on narcotics and opioids! Some doctors would rather prescribe them than medications you can't get hooked on. After sharing my experience with family and friends, they said the same thing happened to them when they asked for non-opioid/narcotic medications. Stephen Miller said that (the ibuprofen) could affect my stomach in the future if I took too much of it and told me to take 4- 200 mg and it would work the same. I asked if I could just have 5 days worth. I was supposedly given this finally only to arrive home and realize I had been given a prescription for the patient in the room beside mine!
