Dr. Surendra Verma, MD

My 83 year-old dad is undergoing radiation treatment for mouth cancer. He’s a jovial person who seeks connection with everyone he meets. One of his other doctors is from Sri Lanka, and he sought connection between him and Dr. Verma by asking where he was from. He said Wichita. My dad asked “what about before that” and Dr. Verma proceeded with a litany of every place he’s ever lived, finally admitting that he was born in India. Of course he doesn’t know this other doctor from point of origin and doesn’t know him professionally either. He then proceeded to examine my dad without care that his exam caused my dad pain. He was rough and used hard tools against raw skin. He was called away to another patient midway through the exam and thankfully we were able to spend the rest of the visit with a long suffering PA who patiently answered my dad’s questions and listened to his concerns. Radiation treatment is hard and it would do Dr. Verma well to have a bit more compassion and less arrogance.

I had one appointment to consult with Dr Verma about post lumpectomy radiation treatment for stage 2 breast cancer. I felt his office and staff were very comprehensive in their treatment information but felt I should have been warned that the appointment would be 3 hours long. Measurements & Photographs were taken of my breast in a professional manner and dr. Verma and his PA were extremely comprehensive about my social history, medical history and what to expect.
