Dr. Tom Thomas, MD

I was referred to Dr. Thomas after tumors were discovered on my thyroid. At the initial visit, Dr. Thomas was kind, patient, and handled the situation with enough humor so I felt relaxed, but was very realistic about the surgery to come. He was at my bed when I woke up in the hospital, explained everything went well, and made arrangements for my follow-ups. Four months later, my scar is nearly non-existent and I feel great. At my final follow-up, not only was there a lot of laughter, but he allowed me see my own vocal cords! He was also very understanding with my concern about my voice not having the power it had before my surgery, and referred my to a speech therapist to help that. He was there for me from soon after the diagnosis to now. There is no higher recommendation that I can give.

Dr. Thomas and his staff are nice! They smile. They answer questions. They care. And, they are good! From the moment I entered the office I know I was in good hands. Dr. Thomas walked me through a scary and difficult diagnosis. He is a gem!

I was referred to Dr Thomas after I was diagnosed with Medullar Thyroid carcinoma. I was very apprehensive in regard to my condition since we would not have all the answer until the surgery was performed. Dr. Thomas was very pleasant and alleviated all my concerns by taking the time needed to answer all my questions, and I had a lot of them. After all the required CT scans and MRI's, specifically pertaining to my chest and Liver, Dr Thomas Advised me that a total Thyroidectomy with level VI exploration-dissection was required. Dr. Thomas positive and energetic personality went a long way in assuring me that I was in good hands. After the surgery everything that was removed was sent for pathology work and they also found Papillary Thyroid carcinoma, I had multiple nodules. But Dr. Thomas did a wonderful job removing all of it. The surgery was a total success. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Thomas to Friends and Family even strangers. I was driving within 4 days after surgery.

Dr. Thomas is an excellent doctor. My husband was referred to him to see if he was eligible for the Inspire implant for sleep apnea.Dr Thomas was upfront about the process and the strict standards he adheres to in selecting candidates for this surgery. My husband was eligible for this surgery after he met the many standards. The whole process from beginning to end went smoothly. My husband has minimal scarring and is very pleased with the results. If you are thinking of Inspire, Dr Thomas is the best around!

Dr Thomas took a lot time explaining the results of the biopsies that he took during the laser surgery of my gum . He was very thorough in his explanation of the surgery that I would need to remove the carcinoma in my gum and the cells in the surrounding tissue . He was very patient with my questions of the surgery plans . I was very confident that I was getting a competent surgeon with a well thought out plan to get clean margins in the remaining tissue . Dr Thomas’ staff were very compassionate and caring with my concerns after the surgery before I received the final report from Dr . Thomas . I felt that Dr Thomas took an interest in me as a person as well as a patient I feel very fortunate that I had such a competent and caring person who was in charge of my surgery and my future follow up care during my reconstruction surgery in the future with a specialized dentist and reconstructive oral surgeon to replace my teeth .

Dr. Thomas is personable, with an immediately likable personality; quick with a smile, and straight forward in his answers to your most concerning questions. He is thorough in his diagnosis and carefully plans out how the surgery will occur. I still have follow up appointments but I am pleased and elated that the surgery went very well and thought he was also pleased and maybe surprised by the outcome; as it was a "very difficult surgery"; his words not mine. I would recommend him to anyone who is considering him to be his/her caregiver; professional, great surgeon, approachable and Atlantic health is very lucky to have him on board!

Dr. Tom Thomas is an excellent surgeon. He was excellent with my 87 y/o mother matching her one liners with his. He explained everything on a level that both she and I could understand, assuring that we were following as he went along. He never rushed us, answering all questions. The interaction he had with his assistants was respectful and professional. I highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Dr. Thomas and his team!! I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in June and then was referred to Dr. Thomas for total thyroidectomy. He and his team were very kind, caring and professional. He answered all my questions and went into detail of the surgery thoroughly. The procedure went good with no complications. My recovery is quick and the scar is well healing after 2 weeks.

Am so grateful to Dr Thomas and his staff for the excellent care they provided me for the removal of a parathyroid gland. My endocrinologist gave me only one name for this procedure. I researched and interviewed 3 and I choose Dr Thomas. He and staff were kind, understanding, professional, and I knew I was in good hands. I was especially concerned about scar I’d be left with after procedure. Dr Thomas assured me it would be almost invisible and he was right! No one can even see the scar. Dr. Thomas was my last dr i was going to see. I had thyroid cancer and had surgery and then radiation treatment and the cancer just seemed to not want to go away . I was told i needed surgery again . All the other Dr i saw told me there was a very high chance i would not be able to talk after the second surgery. Dr. Thomas did my surgery and i woke up with still having my voice and felt amazing after recovering. My recovery was even amazing .. The surgery was difficult but Dr Thomas is amazing at what he does. If anyone needs an amazing dr who cares about his patience and does amazing things in the OR i recommend DR. Thomas highly.

I would like to highly recommend Dr. Tom Thomas, I was diagnosed in September 2022 with thyroid cancer and it spread to some of my lymph nodes and Dr.Bhanu Iyer recommend him to be my surgeon for my total thyroidectomy and neck dissection, I was really scared about this surgery, but when I met with Dr. Tom Thomas, he took his time to explain to me about the surgery and even he drew a picture and went into every detail of the surgery and made me feel more comfortable and secure to continue with the surgery. The day of the surgery I met with his surgical team and he came before the surgery to check on me. The after care of the surgery in the Hospital was one of the best and his team is really professional and caring. The scar of the surgery after 6 months you can't even see it at all. Dr. Tom Thomas was highly recommended by my Endocrinologist when a Thyroidectomy was warranted. All the reviews on him on the internet were positive and often glowing. I was very nervous at my first appointment with Dr Thomas. I found him to be approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly at the time, compassionate. Dr. Thomas reassured me and patiently explained every step of my surgical treatment. I felt confident and calm by the time surgery day came. I have been an RN for half a century. I know the attributes that make a great physician and Dr. Tom Thomas emulates them all. He is kind , empathetic, skilled and compassionate. Dr. Thomas and his entire staff at Morristown Medical Center provided high quality, compassionate care. Dr. Thomas explains everything well and answers all my questions, and i felt completely comfortable entrusting him with a complex surgical procedure. His NP met me in the office on a holiday for postsurgical care, and again she explained everything and answered questions. His entire staff is kind and helpful with the administrative issues that can often create negative experiences in the medical arena. I recommend him highly.

I do not typically write reviews but it was the reviews left by other patients of Dr. Thomas that led me to make an appointment with him to discuss my surgical options. He took the time to clearly explain the surgery (total thyroidectomy) answer my questions, and set my mind at ease. I was instantly comfortable with him and knew I was in capable hands. Even though I live in Bergen County I opted to have surgery by Dr. Thomas in Morristown Hospital and I am so happy I made that decision. He is such a knowledgeable man; as well as the best bedside manner of any surgeon that I've come in contact with. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is having problems with their Thyroid. I ended up having a total Thyroidectomy and (2) Parathyroids removed in August 2021 and experienced no after surgery problems.
