Disappointing. Total lack of bedside manners.
He treated my mother and was not able to come up with a good plan of care. Contradicts himself on each visit. Total lack of bedside manners and empathy. He rushes through the examination.

Dr Tezel is saving my eyesight
As an elderly lady that lives a young life,I am so very grateful to wonderful Dr Tezel. Definitely the most important Doctor in his field. He is also very kind with a charming personality. I don’t even want to think of how my eyesight and life would be without his care. Thank you so much. Dorene Burger

Amazing Dr.
My partner had a macular hole. Originally he was told yrs ago he had Macular degeneration. In a recent visit to his original Dr. he was immediately sent to a specialist, belonging to the same group. I do my home work that nee Dr. did not have great reviews.I did my home work and found Dr. Tezel. A specialist does not even do the man justice. He is a brilliant dedicated surgeon who saved my mans sight. He is personable , and knowledgeable . It is hard to find a Dr who gives his time and attention .Dr Tezel gives more than Words cannot describe the relief and gratitude !!!Thank you

Disappointing
This is a tough one. I saw Tezel in 2018 and he was caring. A good interpreter of all the tech a retina specialist has to hand. This last visit was concerning. I have lived with type 1 diabetes for 48 years and was 'scared straight' as a kid by docs telling me I would go blind. Tezel judged my A1c (7%) and shamed me. I tried to explain that diabetes tech now focuses more on targets and besides I have almost 0 retinopathy which is a huge accomplishment. He was threatening and unkind. People who live with diabetes need encouragement and kindness not scare tactics and judgment. In almost 50 years, my appt with Tezel was one of the worst most demeaning experiences ever and his treatment took me right back to the 1970s. No thanks.

Worst experience ever
Dr. Tezel said that the diagnosis made by my previous doctor (a prestigious researcher and clinician) was wrong. I saw another highly respected ophthalmologist after I saw Dr. Tezel, and he disagreed with Dr. Tezel and agreed with my former MD re diagnosis. Dr. Tezel refused to look at records I had brought with me saying, “I only believe what I see myself.” (Some of the records were photographs). He suggested an expensive blood test to determine the proper eye vitamins to use; this test has been discredited because the research behind it could not be replicated. Dr. Tezel was astoundingly arrogant and not interested in listening. In his chart notes, he reported discussions that had not taken place.

Dr. Tezel (actually also Professor) is the Director of the Retina Division at Columbia Presbyterian, one of the leading Ophthalmologist centers in the US. Based on my own experience, Dr. Tezel is the most caring, knowledgeable and talented ophthalmologist surgeon I ever went to. He fixed my macular pucker and hole to perfection as I now have 20/20 for the eye he operated on. I would recommend him to anyone having any sort of retina issue, and as a bonus, he has a fantastic sense of humor.

My first visit today with Dr. Tezel; Highly recommend for retinal concerns. Columbia Medical is the best hospital in NY with wonderful physicians; no surprise to meet another great physician. . Dr. Tezel was empathetic, brilliant, made me feel at ease and very trustworthy. . Have already recommended him to friends. His office is in mid-town East; also impressed with the Columbia Eye center staff-very affable and eager to assist. Overall a great team and top retina specialist in New York.

The opthalmologist called in Dr. Tezel to examine a retinal tear. He decided right away to operate. It felt right. He is authoritative and effective. His English is excellent. He was almost a little too efficient in explaining the condition; he seemed a little bit impatient when I did not understand. That is a minor quibble. I recommend him without reservation.
