Dr. Tracy Kuniega-Pietrzak, MD

Tracy Kuniega is one of the worst doctors I have ever worked with. My opinion is that she should not even have a medical license. In my experience, she didn't care even a little bit about getting to know me, which was further evidenced by the fact that she could apparently tell my follow up provider very little about me just one week after I discharged from the CED. She also violated my privacy by choosing to confront me about something in the milieu hallway in front of several other patients and staff. I have nothing good to say about her.

I saw Dr. Kuniega on and off for 10+ years. She is very authoritative in her demeanor and lacks empathy. She has a strong aversion to benzodiazepines even if you have never abused them. Years ago when I was in the hospital, she stopped a high dose of valium I had been on within a couple days. I had severe panic attacks and withdrawal symptoms for weeks. I understand the reason to wean off of the medication, but to stop it within a couple days is near negligence. I was hoping that when she started seeing people in the outpatient department her attitude would change and she would become more warm, but I was wrong. She is the same and will not change. I urge her to reevaluate her communication strategies with her patients. If you are a patient at the late Center for Eating Disorder now known as Eating Recovery Center of Maryland, I urge you to see one of the other psychiatrists there, because I had good experiences with several other psychiatrists there.

Dr. Kuniega is an inpatient psychiatrist on the Center for Eating Disorders Unit at Sheppard Pratt Hospital and does not provide any outpatient services. You may not agree with all of her decisions but she honestly makes them from a place of caring and concern. She's both maternal and clinical in the same breath. I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone who needed inpatient care.
