Dr. Vasili Karas, MD

May 5th of 2024 I had knee replacement. Dr Karas and his whole team took care of all of my needs and fears of surgery. I never used a cane or walker after surgery. Anytime I called with questions they were answered almost immediately. Dr Karas took as much time as I needed to answer my questions and explain things to me. His PA is wonderful. Once I had to wait a while at my appointment but I understand that some people require more time then others and frankly he is worth waiting for because you know he will take whatever time you need also. If I need my right knee done I will go to Dr Karas. I highly recommend him. I am 3 months post surgery and my knee is in perfect working order. I think therapy is a must after surgery. Thank you Dr Karas and your whole staff for. Before surgery, your recovery nurses and post care. A beautiful experience!

I had a Total knee replacement in April of 2023, almost one and one half years ago. I still have pain and numbness which may never go away. Dr Karas has a huge ego which would be ok if he were a great surgeon. Not only did he not address my concerns, but he schedules about 20 people at the same time. It is all about him. I had to wait two hours for my follow up appointment. During the time I was waiting, they only called one or two people for other doctors, but called about twenty patients for Dr. Karas. Again, I would have accepted this lack of consideration for his patients if the results of my TKR would have been good. I love my non-surgical orthopedist at Rush and will continue to go to her. I just had my hip replaced at Northshore as I refused to go back to Dr. Karas for any procedure. I am only two weeks out from the surgery and everything is proceeding fantastically. His team was terrible both before and after surgery. I could go on, but not enough room here.

How do I express what a positive experience this knee replacement has been for me? I was mildly terrified to have it done but Dr. Karas and his entire staff allayed all my fears and my recovery and the outcome of my surgery has been amazing. Everyone on this team was fantastic! They explained everything, answered all of my millions of questions, and always made me feel comfortable. I felt well supported after my surgery and was prepared for what to expect in my recovery period. All the staff (registration folks, techs, nurses, APNs, PAs, physicians) at both the Oak Park office and at Rush Chicago were phenomenal! And Dr. Karas-what an amazing physician! He is obviously a very skilled surgeon but is also such a personable and caring person. I am so thankful that he is the one I chose to do my surgery (after much research). I have already referred many people to this amazing practice and will continue to do so.

After doing extensive research among U.S top knee replacement surgeons I selected Dr. Karas to perform my 3rd knee surgery. The outcome for my partial knee replacement has been nothing short of a perfect miracle. His skill set as a surgeon is impressive and he is willing to do the hard work to achieve full patient satisfaction ...as it was my case. Great support team at every touch point. Thank you.

Dr. Karas performed my right total knee replacement a little over a year ago. From beginning to end, he and his team orchestrated an exceptional experience and outcome. I was able to have the surgery performed as an outpatient, and was walking up the stairs to my home the same day. Within months I was back to many of the activities that I love - hiking, skiing, cycling. Today I’m back to living the pain -free active lifestyle that I had missed for so many years. To say this surgery was life changing would be an understatement.

Had a preliminary visit - decided to trust Dr Karas and his very capable team with a hip replacement. The surgery was less than two weeks ago - I am very impressed with the care, the preliminary contact and the thorough follow-up.

I've had knee pain for 3 years after replacement by another surgeon. Dr. Karas, who was an hour late, barely spent 5 minutes with me. Told me my only viable option was to stretch my IT band (despite 4 extensive rounds of p.t.) and to lose weight. His physician's assistant then gave me a steroid injection in my knee which has made the pain much worse. Follow-up questions went unanswered. Feel like he totally blew me off. I had expected much more given Midwest Orthopedics national reputation. Won't be returning.

The staff was the best they were friendly informative and and extremely helpful. Dr. Karas made me feel more then a patient but as someone who I could talk to which made me feel comfortable and confident in taking care of me.
