I have a hard time relating to the other reviews since they are totally unlike my experience with my brother as his power of attorney. Dr. Poag called me several times before my brother's cancer surgery as did his nurse. He spent a lot of time with me discussing my brother's situation and what the surgery would entail. After the surgery, he talked about what he had done and my brother's prognosis. He is a caring doctor and continues to call me concerning my brother's health.

From the start Dr. Poag does not make you feel welcome in his office. He did not seem to listen nor did he do a good job at explaining the procedure. His entire attitude was rather rude. His nurse assistant is the worst. She was heartless in her interaction with me. Terrible experience. If you are looking for a good hand/plastic surgeon look elsewhere.

This doctor is quite heartless. In addition he does not explain your condition well and has no listening skills. I hear he is a good surgeon, but he needs to work on his other skills.

Dr. Poag did not do a good job explaining treatment options to me and was not helpful in answering my questions. Overall I felt he was very condescending, pompous, and did not actually want to help me. I wish there were more providers in the Ames area - I had no other options, but if I had I would not have gone to him.
