Really did me wrong
He seems professional and caring but he never gave me full lupus tests. I have been sick for years. He said something is wrong but I don’t know what to get another opinion. The new dr gave me full lupus panel tests I have lupus. How could this man be a rhumatologist and not know I have had been suffering with lupus for years. I do not recommend him. He really doesn’t care. He actually seems confused. One day he said he was putting me on prednisone the next he said no it causes other damage in the body. I hope he does better for other people so they don’t suffer for years trusting him.

Unaccommodating
I was in extreme pain, 'ready to jump out a window.' Dr. Given diagnosed polymyalgia rheumatica, for which steroids, either oral or injectable, are the only treatment. Dr. Given first suggested physical therapy (which would have been useless). I needed immediate help, but he dismissed me and thus forced me to wait 2 weeks for another appointment and the steroid shot I needed. Apparently this is his usual modus operandi, as I learned when I recently tried to make another appointment. Perhaps this is a way of billing twice for what should have been a single visit. I have found another doctor, unfortunately much further away.

Knowledgeable care
Dr Given is a great physician. He listens attentively and patiently. He responds to calls or texts about needs or concerns quickly. In a time when medicine seems to have become so distant and detached Dr Given still maintains a professional connected relationship with his patients.

Dr. Givens took his time to answer all of my questions and I did not feel rushed through the appointment. He seemed to be very knowledgeable in his field and I liked the fact that he has an interactive website for his patients.

I saw this doctor about ten years ago and because he didn't believe that I have RA took me off a drug which was working really well and put me into a major flare which hasn't subsided since. I have suffered the most awful pain in my hands since then and have had hand surgery due to the RA, a transposition of the ulner nerve in my right arm directly due to the RA. I had a second knee replacement in March, 2015 but I am not sure if it was due to the RA or OA (so I can't blame him for that).

I went to Dr Given as a second opinion after doctor failed to diagnose me with psoriatic arthritis and wanted to start treatment for lupus. When I made the appointment the receptionist was very helpful in gathering all my labs and tests and I was able to get an appointment within only a few days. Dr Given was confident that I did not have lupus but PsA and he has never pushed me to start treatment I wasn't ready for. I would highly recommend him. Wait time has only been 10-15 mins.

in 1990 I had a Fever of Unknown Origin. After almost a year with other doctors, many tests and even major exploratory surgery, I still had no diagnoses. Than I went to see Dr. Given and he successfully treated me. I now live in NJ over an hour and a half away from Dr. Givens office but I still prefer to make the trip to see him when I need.
