Complex Thoracic Surgery in 2005
I am thankful for a successful complex thoracic surgery by Dr Krauss. I went back to Mayo 3 mo post surgery to be involved in a holistic rehab program. It was HORRIBLE!I stayed 15 of 30 days until I realized I was involved in a covert process to forcibly take away my opiates prescribed and supported by Dr Krauss. The program had a clear message that you MUST deny your needs and not utilize and supports from any source and be silent regarding your health. Sadly, Dr Krauss and his staff acted as if they did not know me. And the program was clearly not what I was looking for to move my life forward in a healthy direction. I contacted the Mayo BOD and Ethics Committee with an in depth explanation of my many concerns as a patient and RN. I got a supportive response that changes would be looked at and made. I KNOW that a wide continuum of care is essential to complete healing after such an impactful surgery. I was very disappointed to not get it at the Mayo Clinic!

Bad Neurosurgeon/Far from Mayo Clinic Standards
Questionable skills. Honesty eludes him. ArrogantHis staff seems to be mostly cut from the same cloth. I contracted an infection while having spinal surgery. The incision began oozing. I called Dr. Krauss to report the condition. He delayed my return for treatment numerous times. I begged him and his staff to return for treatment. By the time they allowed my return the infection was so bad I required more surgery and have suffered unimaginable over the past 14 months. I returned for a 12 month follow up. Had X-rays. Dr. Krauss assistant said the hardware looked beautiful. I happened to look at X-rays and clearly saw a screw broken and the Radiologist indicated hardware failure. It appears the X-rays had not been reviewed. Please beware of this team and the leader. They can hurt you and not care in my opinion and experiencePatient Advocacy appears more interested in protecting Doctor than advocating for their patient

Spine surgery wasn’t a success. But that happens. Was treated like I was radioactive when I asked follow up consult. Very disappointing.

Rude. Didn’t show me my films/MRI. Told me there was nothing that could be done. So I went elsewhere and had very successful back surgery 5 years ago.

I had no problem with Dr. Krauss as my surgery resolved my most acute problem. However I developed new problem and after seven months have not been able to get an appointment to see him again. Why does he say he is taking new patients when he will not see previous patients.

Dr Krauss and his surgical team are among the best of the best. I had the opportunity to have a lumbar spine fusion and decompression. He and his nurses Diane were kind, caring and the results exemplary. Orlan Jackson, DO

A life saver - performed two syrinx surgeries that stopped progression of paralysis each about 10 years apart. Could not locate such a surgeon in Michigan. He can seemed reserved but his skills make up for that. Would not hesitate to recommend him to others in their time of trouble. Believe he is one of the reasons Mayo is ranked number 1 in Nuerosurgery in the United States.
