Enthusiastic yes. Outstanding at diagnosis. One: Noticed my abdominal aneurysm years before it needed surgery. Was successfully operated on when annual monitoring indicated it was time. Two: Diagnosed my type II diabetes, but more importantly, started a treatment regimen that has required no insulin shots, no constant monitoring of blood glucose levels, but does include a careful diet and, now 20 years later, a single, daily, glipizide pill. No food damage, no eye damage. Have kept my A1C well below 7.0. Not perfectly good health, but pretty good and active at 80+ years. Three: Remarkably suspected an aneurysm in my wife, but in that case, was not discovered by doctors in another city until 20 years later, just in time, time for a very major, operation involving heart-lung machine, valve replacement, and removing a 8.7 cm. aneurysm at the ascending curve of her aorta. All successful. Dr. Shields is very highly recommended. He will take good care of you. .

No. Poor and insufficient admin staff. They drop patients with little or no explanation, simply for missing some unknown number of appointments or rescheduling appointments. They left me to run out of one medication totally shen I didn’t even receive any notice they were dropping me! They let me just run out of one of only two medications I’ve taken for years! And of course it takes weeks to get a new doctor appointment around here. That should be malpractice! I don’t even know if it’s safe to suddenly stop that medication! No one even returns calls over a week. Can never get his nurse either. Unacceptable service! I had to miss appointments occasionally as my aged father with Alzheimer’s I cared for daily for 2.5 years. My father was/is also Dr Shields doctor! He sas my mother’s doctor before her passing as well. Very irresponsible doctor and practice to dismiss any established patient without notifying them or giving a heads up or a warning too if their dismissal rules in my opinion.

I had been a patient of a doctor at ECIM for 16 years and I had gotten to the point where I never had an answer. This doctor and his nurse were non-caring. I then asked a friend to recommend a doctor, who was Dr. Shields. I was able to schedule an appointment quickly and his nurse took my history and was generally very helpful. Dr. Shields ordered an MRI for me and changed my medication, set me up with more Physical therapy. Bottom line - I feel 100% better. Very professional treatment by all.
