DO NOT GO TO HIM
I was a patient of Dr.Al-Tawil for ~3 years. During that time, he ran unnecessary tests, talked to me as if I was a toddler (I was 16-18y/o), and never checked my chart before coming into an appt. He always had to ask if I was still on medication that he was prescribing and blatantly ignored when I mentioned various side effects of the meds. After I switched doctors, I found out within a month that I had drug-induced lupus from the medicine Al-Tawil was prescribing. When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s after over a year of strenuous testing, he claimed that he was “only 85% sure” that I had crohn’s. Always misinformed me and lied, and when I would question something he said he would always shut me down. He has a superiority complex and even told my mom that she should “find better insurance” when we mentioned having a high deductible. He doesn’t care about the quality of patients and will say/do anything to make himself sound right. I still have problems today because of Dr.Al-Tawil.

For 7 years this Dr has forced us into putting our child through upper and lower scopes every 6 months and when we refused to do so as often as she was having no issues and her pediatrician said it was to much also he refused to give her the medication for her acid reflux any longer office manager is horrible also Dr Altiwal and his nurse argued with me in the office very unprofessional.

Dr. Altawil is so knowledgeable, extremely experienced. We are lucky in Knoxville to have such a great physician in town. Although extremely busy, he is worth the wait.

Dr. Al-Tawil is a rude and condescending man. He didn’t want to hear any background of our problem, had made up his mind about the diagnosis before entering the room (and was WRONG because he wouldn’t listen to what was going on), and said shockingly rude things to me when I was simply asking questions. The staff even said that many of his patients transfer due to his terrible bedside manner. Do not go to this doctor!

We were warned about GI Kids and especially Dr Al-Tawil for doing unnecessary testing. We were referred for food allergy testing. Instead he did two other tests. He didn’t listen to my child’s symptoms and didn’t remember anything we had discussed. He didn’t even open her chart. We still have no real answers after 4 office visits and an ultrasound, food allergy testing and bloodwork. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars they’ve billed our insurance. The office manager made excuses for the two dozen complaints we had. It’s really sad that the rumors were true. After I left a 1 star review on google they dismissed my daughter as a patient, which i actually read from other google reviews! Unbelievable and I can’t even make this stuff up.

Very dismissive and rude. Never listened fully to concerns and symptoms. Every appointment i had to reexplain all my symptoms and what had been going on. He misdiagnosed me three times before admitting he didn’t know what to do. Sent me else where to get diagnosed and when i returned to him he didn’t trust the diagnosis and blamed me for all my symptoms and conditions and accused me of an eating disorder. I was constant belittled and gaslighted and am now left with medical ptsd from the way i was treated. Every appointment was rushed and I never got any questions answered. Never held eye contact and talked at me rather than with me. I highly discourage any families to take their children to him if you can help it. When all i needed was someone to listen and to give me hope he did the opposite. Has some sort of god complex, very disrespectful.

My daughter saw him for 6 years. At time he was great but others acted like he could care less. Recently she has been having trouble with vomiting. He suggested a tube placement temporarily but when the insurance asked for a pier to pier he would not do it and dropped my her. Would not give a reason why. Like other reviewers when we tried other doctors they refused to see her and would not say why. The team at Children’s in Cincinnati sent orders for a gastric emptying study and showed she had MAJOR Issues with removing food and showed Gastroparesis. We now have to head to Cincinnati for a procedure as we can’t get it done here because of them. Broke my daughters heart that after 6 years they just dumped her with no treatment and her suffering. It’s about the money not the cure with them.

Horrible bedside manner. Thinks he knows more about GI than anyone. Will lie and lie to you. Will do unnecessary testing just to run up your bill and milk your insurance. Horrible experience and zero trust for him and his staff.

We have been seeing this office for 7 long years and have been assured several times that this is the best and only treatment. We just returned from Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital just to find out that the treatment for my son has been the wrong treatment. Instead of severe food allergies, my son has irritable bowel syndrome. It has been torture for my son and family these past 7 years, he’s been unable to eat hardly anything, has continued to loose weight and for the first three years had a scope every three months, and after two scopes per year. So with that said if you have any doubts or questions about this Dr. make sure you get a second opinion ASAP. Honestly I think it’s money, money, money otherwise it should not have taken so long to treat my son. When 1 visit is all it took to Vanderbilt children’s hospital.

My son saw Dr. Al-Tawil several years ago and we were pleased with the treatment. However, now that my son is an adult we are finding that some other doctors refuse to treat him because he was formerly a patient of Dr. Al-Tawil. I don't know what is behind it but it has made transferring to an adult doctor extremely difficult.

He quickly ordered the right tests and diagnosed our granddaughter''s problems in gaining weight. He also diagnosed our grandson''s issues. Both are at a healthy weight. After seeking many doctors help, Dr. Al-Tail was the only one to find out the problem and treat it. Our granddaughter loves to go to his office and hugs are given.

My child suffered with pancreatitis since the age of 3. Our first GI doctor retired, and referred us to Dr Al-Tawil. He has always been so kind and compassionate with my daughter. He advocated for us for further options for her condition and it saved her life. I will forever be grateful to him for his care for my happy and healthy 10 1/2 year old. For us, he has been the best. He is genuine.

Dr Al-Tawil is hands down the best ever, very compassionate, kind, and caring. HIGHLY Recommend him! Also him coming to Morristown has helped me tremendously so I don’t have to drive to Knoxville. He hasn’t let me down. He has been there for me. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know where I would be right now. I was rapidly losing weight and getting sick. We decided to do a feeding tube and I’m so glad we did. After 2 1/2 years. I’m finally getting back to my normal self and gaining my weight back.

I’ve never left a bad review on a doctor until now. I honestly think that Dr. Al-Tawil is a complete total jerk. Our 1st visit, he was ok but seemed to be in a rush and didn’t want to answer questions. Our 2nd follow up, he pawned us off on a new NP that was clueless and a total waste of our time. Of course, we were billed for seeing him. Our 3rd visit, I left there ugly crying because he was in such a rush that I couldn’t ask anything. 5 visits and no answers so we gave up on him.

My child was very sick and we had been to several doctors without any diagnosis or symptom resolution. Dr. Al-Tawil was very thorough, patient and compassionate and really listened to what was going on. He took the time to explain the diagnosis which helped alleviate the concern and anxiety our family had been feeling. I am so thankful and have such trust in him. I greatly appreciate the kindness and support of his entire office staff.
