Dr. Alicia Lau, OD

My daughter and I went to Dr. Lau, at her location in Poway. She was very nice, took the time to make us feel comfortable and help with my daughter's new prescription. I would highly recommend her!

I met with Dr. Lau (in Poway location) for the first time July 2022 when my previous eye doctor retired. I was impressed with her thoroughness, patience and suggestions to help me with my aging eye issues. I'm very pleased with the solution she offered. So happy with her expert guidance!

Dr. Lau is kind, patient and super knowledgeable. She noticed I have a slight astigmatism and provided the right glasses for my computer stressed eyes. Eyes are feeling better now, she got the prescription just right. Long hours staring at the screen are much better now. Highly recommend Dr. Lau!

I had gone for a routine eye exam in May2022. On initial exam of retina Dr Lau noted that I had a retinal tear! Was totally symptomless. Was surprised but she was thorough & did necessary things over her lunch break & referred me to a retinal specialist who that same day proceeded to laser the area. She commended Dr Lau on her thoroughness since if I’d waited I would have had a retinal tear!!! I appreciated Dr Lau’s attention & care. Would recommend her highly for her time & care & professional approach.

Reviewing for Dr. Lau in Poway location. She likely saved my vision in both eyes. Went initially for routine vision exam. She found retina tears in both eyes, made immediate referral to retina specialist. I quickly got laser surgery in both eyes. Now, over a month later, doing well, returned for the delayed vision check. She again was thorough, answered questions. Thank you.

Dr. Lau was extremely caring and attentive . I have a complicated case of bilateral asymmetric astigmatism complicated by chronic dry eye. Being a medical provider myself in a specialty where my visual acumen is absolutely critical, I can say she is truly a “doctor’s doctor.” She explained every diagnostic test and why it was necessary to perform, and made me feel included in my management plan listening to my concerns and answering all my questions. I am excruciatingly particular about my contact lens RX as I wear them 10-12 hrs per day, while also donning surgical loupes. I appreciate her patience and expertise in selecting the right lens for my needs, which in turn has given me the confidence to take care of my own patients. Thank you Dr.Lau!

I have been consistently going to Dr. Lau. She is extremely nice and I makes me feel very comfortable each visit. She takes personal interest in my eye health and makes my visits feel like she cares about what’s best for me. I would highly recommend.

Dr. Lau has been my eye doctor for about 1.5 years. I'm leaving her a review prior to my move out of SoCal. I have an autoimmune neuropathy and have been seeing Dr. Lau since I moved to San Diego. She has been very attentive and explained my conditions and treatments. My eye condition is chronic and complex but she has helped me monitor and treat it very well. I would highly recommend her to anyone that needs care and attention for complex illnesses.

I called the office about some discomfort in my eyes due to a pre-existing medical condition and was asked to come in to get it checked. I was seen by Dr. Lau, who didn’t seem to care about my concerns. She was rude and rough. Also, she seemed to be bothered that I was asked to come in on such short notice, as if I was the one who made that arrangement. She lacks proper communication skills. I got more “information” about my visit from her notes on MyChart than I did from her in person.

Went to Dr. Lau after getting in a rock climbing accident and she helped tremendously. The rock slit my iris open and she was able to diagnose it and put me on eye drop steroids and antibiotics that healed it within a couple weeks. She took great care and I would highly recommend her.

My recent visit Dr Lau was definitely worth the drive, getting the baby sitter, etc. Dr. Lau is very knowledgeable and professional. I felt as if I were the only patient there. She took the time to educate me on the condition of my eyes. I would definitely refer her to everyone I know.

Was given the wrong prescription. When I called the office to let them know, her assistant called back stating, Dr. Lau put in her notes I had dry eyes and apply a warm patch to my eyes daily. I was never told that. In fact, I wasn't told anything. The staff never checked my eye pressure. It was truly the worst exam I had ever had. I have been waiting on a return call from her or her staff since August. It is now October and I still haven't heard from BCM.

I was amazed at how disinterested she was with my condition. She NEVER asked if I had questions or concerns, and exited the room without even saying goodbye. Her assistant came back into the room and asked if "she was finished with me"? How would I know ... she left and that was that! This was (by far) the worst experience that I have ever had. Disclosure: she did inform me that she is leaving to a new position in a couple of weeks. Still no excuse!

Seen by Dr.Lau about one month ago for routine eye exam. I received a new prescription for glasses. I love my new glasses. My vision is sharper and everything brighter. Excellent exam.

I would not recommend Dr. Lau. Dr. Lau has HORRIBLE bedside manor. She is RUDE and does not answer your questions when asked. She needs training on how to talk and communicate with patients. I have been to many doctors in my lifetime and have NEVER met anyone this disconnected from her patients. Other office staff were great.
