Told me I was not the “bendiest kid” she’d seen that day and therefore said I didn’t not have EDS. She also said, “why does it matter if I diagnose you or not?” It matters so other doctors can treat me with respect and give me the correct care that I need. It was so privileged of her to brush of an illness that causes someone pain DAILY and completely alters a life like it’s nothing. After I started crying because at this point she was just gaslighting me, she said “I bet you want to throw a brick at my head” which i thought was completely inappropriate to say to someone who is in pain daily, let alone a MINOR. I had to travel out of state for this appointment being told I was finally going to be diagnosed, only to be gaslighted, embarrassed and left me questioning my pain. Amanda Bawcom made me and my mother waste time, money, and energy only to be humiliated as a disabled person. She, and many other doctors like her are the reason it takes 10 yrs. to be diagnosed with EDS.
