I had the privilege of working with Amy as my therapist for several years, and I held her in very high regard until recent events. Amy provided support during a time when I was emotionally fragile, grappling with PTSD, grief, and trauma. However, I must express my disappointment and concern regarding the way our therapeutic relationship concluded. Amy's abrupt departure without a proper professional handoff left me feeling betrayed and abandoned at a critical juncture in my healing process. This experience highlighted the paramount importance of clear communication and professional boundaries in the therapeutic setting. Throughout our time together, it became evident that boundaries were not as robust as they should have been. This lack of clarity around professional boundaries left me feeling vulnerable and uncertain. Furthermore, I question whether Amy had the necessary experience and expertise to effectively address the depth of trauma I was dealing with. While Amy is undoubtedly a compassionate and well-intentioned person who genuinely wanted to be kind and present, her handling of the termination of our therapeutic relationship fell far short of professional standards. Multiple attempts, both from me and my current therapist, to reach out for closure were met with silence, compounding the emotional distress caused by her departure. In conclusion, my experience with Amy underscores the crucial importance of clear communication and well-defined professional boundaries in the field of therapy. While I believe Amy had good intentions, her inability to navigate these essential aspects of the therapeutic relationship ultimately led to harm and a profound sense of betrayal. It is my hope that she can learn from this feedback and continue to grow as a therapist, ensuring that future clients do not encounter similar challenges.
