April Hand-Cameron, LPC

I took my child to April to help her navigate through some challenging times & emotions, hoping to find solace and guidance. Unfortunately, her experience with this particular therapist left her with feelings of anger, hurt & dismay. It became apparent that April had a condescending demeanor. Instead of fostering a safe and supportive environment, her communication style was marked by dismissive tones and an air of superiority. My child felt like she had to be on the defensive for her mom, making it difficult for her to open up and share her thoughts and feelings. Rather than acknowledging her emotions and concerns, April often brushed them aside with statements of negative things regarding what she was in therapy for. Even going so far as to share what another therapist in her office said to her about a talk with 1 of his patients. My child left knowing that was not the correct way for her to handle herself and at that point lost trust in her as did I.

April provided a comfortable, nurturing environment. What I was most impressed with was her practical advice for me and realistic strategies to better help me cope with my anxiety.
