Dr. Carolyn Van, OD

I have had two recent refractions, changed glasses and still could not see clearly. I had an appointment with Dr. Van this morning and she was thorough and took her time with my examination and explained things thoroughly. She is changing my eyeglass prescription but also took time to explain her findings.

However, her eye exam rates have doubles in 2 years and her fees are not transparent - like so many other health care providers. Our health care system is one big mystery, and no body likes a mystery when they reach the check out counter. The fees for services are not listed on her website or in the office for patients to review. The huge '$140 contact lens exam' posted over the tiny office is also misleading. That's what I was there for, but since I only have one lens, I was charged $40 more for the exam. Smh. Her office staff, like so many of a certain age and in the south, lack in basic communication skills. You can hardly hear them as they whisper when they talk.They seem like they hate their jobs and are not friendly at all!!Dr. Van spent all of 5 minutes with me this time.I may continue with her or not.I would much prefer if she were not located in a big box store - I really dislike that part too.Ugh.

I have seen Dr Van a number of times through the years she has been practicing at the Costco in Lafayette. I cannot say enough great things about her professionalism and her incredible knowledge. She is just outstanding. I highly recommend her.
