Deborah Apter, LCSW

I've been a client for many years. For the person who left a 1 star review, Deb is a therapist not a psychiatrist so she can't prescribe medications. Not to mention, she has ALWAYS stressed working through things with exercises, reading and communication - WITHOUT medication. She suggests specific books so you can learn more about how you "tick" and why we react or respond the way we do. Every word of that one star review sounds like a different person than I've worked with for 20 years.

I have worked with Deborah for at least eight years. She guided me through an extremely difficult divorce with an ex-husband who was a licensed clinical social worker making false claims about my mental health. He did this because he had committed pervasive and devastating financial abuse during our marriage and was doing his best to destroy my credibility. She was very thorough, kind, compassionate and realistic about the difficult choices I was facing.

I have worked with Debbie for over 5 years. She is kind, caring, relateable and professional. When I discussed taking medication with her (she never brought it up, I did) she helped me make my own decision. I have recommended her to several friends and she has helped them, too. Don't hesitate to give her a try.

Hi, Debbie Apter forced me on meds, when they weren't necessary, because she couldn't handle my emotions, as a good competent therapist would have been able to do. She was an incompetent therapist. I trusted her and saw her as a mother figure and she threatened me if I didn't go on dangerous psychotropic drugs, she would terminate our therapy. She used my feelings for her as a mother figure, by manipulating me to do something I didn't want to do. Or she would be out of my life. Don't go here.
