Dr. Diane Backus, PHD

I find Dr. Backus knowledgeable, trustworthy, caring, non judgemental, and friendly, Great sense of humor, I have found our sessions very helpful. I would highly recommend her.

Dr. Backus has been an amazing support to me as I work through signiciant grief, loss and trauma. She is positive and respectful and maintains an honest and open-minded dialogue throughout our interactions. During our sessions, she often checks in with me to see how I am feeling about the topics that we are discussing and empowers me with useful techniques and skills to use. She is very flexible around my schedule and includes virtual options when needed.

Dr. Backus has been a voice of reason and reassurance that I have needed. She listens, offers perspective and honestly cares.

She is the most caring, conscientious and effective therapist I have ever seen. She goes above and beyond to help and has helped me through many traumatic times.

I’m my experience Diane was a very attentive, supportive, and knowledgeable therapist. Diane made suggestions of material for me to read to help work through some of the issues I was dealing with. Diane was also great at creating a safe space to be able to be vulnerable and share in.

When I met Diane I was in the midst of a mental health crisis. Since meeting Diane she has given me countless skills to navigate through difficult situations. She is compassionate and provides a comfortable place to process hard things. When the pandemic started, Diane removed the barrier of meeting in person and offered visits via Telehealth. Diane has helped me walk through trauma, family disfunction, relationships, disordered eating, parenthood, grief and addiction. After our visits I feel more empowered and capable. I’m grateful to Diane for her compassion and empathy as well as her professionalism and attentiveness.

Dr. Backus, Is amazingly professional and compassionate. She is helping me find myself again, set boundaries and live a healthier life going forward. She continues to dig in not only on what is going on in my life in the now - but my past and how I got here. Dr. Backus is truly interested and has a wonderful memory. She continues to challenge me to dig deep and remember some of the the unspoken behaviors we have created for ourselves can be written.

Diane is intelligent, kind, encouraging. She stays up to date with current findings and research. I will return to her.

As a victim of abuse, I don't enjoy having my words twisted and dishonestly quoted. After seeing Diane 3 times, in attempts to amend an abusive relationship I had, I texted her the following quote(direct copy and paste): "Same thing happened with my dad, he’s done just about everything to pretend I didn’t rip his mask off and figuratively spanked him with it. He couldn’t do a single thing but lie about my character!" This quote is an obvious reference to being narcissistically abused and confronting my abuser(my father in this situation) with his dishonesty about the situations that fractured our relationship. Diane texted me back: "I no longer believe it will be a good idea for all of us to meet on Thursday. You indicated, in one of your texts above, that you had “ripped (your father’s) mask off and literally spanked him with it." "I am going to request that you do not contact me moving forward." Diane is manipulative, deceptive and a linguistic coward. Don't recommend!!!!
