Dr. Elizabeth Smiley, PHD

Dr. Smiley was a compassionate and thoughtful listener, but she often spoke more than me during our sessions. Her speaking was sometimes helpful, but often times painfully redundant. I felt she did not take enough initiative to keep our sessions productive and helpful. She did help me learn about myself, but my mental health and confidence have improved since I stopped going. I'm not sure how much is Dr. Smiley is to blame vs. the psychological profession in general. Check out 'Bad Therapy' by Abigail Shrier.

Denied the severity of my eating disorder after I confessed to engaging in eating disorder behaviors that had dangerous health consequences (that I was already experiencing). Was late multiple times and even forgot my appointment once. Told me she would follow up with me a few months after my last appointment with her but never did.
