Emily did not know how to insert a Foley bulb for my induction. She tried twice and it was extremely painful and quite traumatic. She just kept fumbling around inside and blamed it on the bulb being not the type she was used to. She did not seem to care about the pain this caused me and did not check in to see how I was doing at any point. The nurse was wonderful and made sure I was given a break when Emily wanted to keep trying. After shift change another midwife inserted the Foley easily.

Emily delivered my baby boy this winter. My experience with her was much different than the encounters with the other midwives at Swedish Ballard. While the rest of the midwives were personally invested in my health and well-being, Emily did seem remotely compassionate or interested in my care. Due to the lack of communication, empathy, and information throughout my labor, I felt utterly abandoned, uninformed, and confused by what was happening to me and my baby.

Emily was on call during the birth of my daughter, She was very cold/distant, and does not have the compassionate/empathetic demeanor of a midwife. She did not read or discuss our birth preferences form, nor did she include me in decisions about my care, Neither I nor my husband felt confident in the decisions Emily was making throughout my labor, After 30 hours of labor and an unplanned c-section, neither Emily nor the attending OB came to debrief the procedure or discuss my baby's health.
