This provider is a very nice person and has good intentions, but he is dominating and takes on the position of ultimate director and authority figure over your treatment. Perhaps he is ideal for very incapable young people because he treated me like I am anything but the authority on my own life and like I couldn't possibly be in the driver's seat of my life. If you assert your adult and competent agency with him, he is somewhat foiled and does not know how to compromise his directorial position. He is also kind of cultish about his DBT approach/methods. His chairs are also very uncomfortable. It's a shame that he is not more evolved as a therapist.

I came to Gary in rough shape. I had tried many other therapists, I had attempted suicide, was self harming and was in and out of mental hospitals. I simply was not going to make it. From my first steps into his office I knew he was different. He was practical, logical, evidence-based, empathetic but yet did not just pander to me. He developed a plan. And together, step by step, I became non suicidal - stopped self-harming - no more hospitalizations - finished my masters program and now I have a loving family. It took time and work but now my PTSD and anxiety affect my life on a VERY manageable level. I love my life and my family and I experience joy daily. I moved to a different city but whenever I need a therapy boost I will drive that 1 to 1.5hrs to see Gary. It's worth it. This man saved my life. If you are about to give up hope, please don't.
