Dr Kim is overall professional, but there was information we wish we had known before seeing her. The primary reason she saw our son was because he was at a new school & extremely stressed. We hoped to help him with coping skills and also ensure he was not at risk for self harm. The second reason, he has been hinting that he is gay since he was 5. We wanted guidance on how to be supportive without misstepping. She is personable so our son liked her, but she had a way of probing that seemed to be aimed at confirmation bias, and eager to prove her expertise to us; that caused him to not feel comfortable opening up. There was also counter transference that caused distrust. We found out later her degree is from a faith-based program, and she does not list LGBT as a specialty. If we had known, we would have had a different conversation initially to determine if she was the right fit. Her methods are not faith based, but therapists are human, so make sure to vet, and follow your instincts.
