Children on the spectrum, mood disorders.
My two sons were in DrBerks social skills groups years ago, we noticed no improvement and our kids hated him. Dr. Berk only said to me, about my younger son, “this child is going to eat you alive someday!”. I now see what he was trying to tell me. We are still dealing with it and our son is now 24 and lives at home. Cannot hold a job. Has no friends. He has medical and mental issues beyond Dr. Berks abilities. He does know how to connect with kids. That I give Dr Berk credit, he reaches them but cannot help them all

Desperate Parents Stay Clear
As a single mother whose son has adhd/odd/ASD I’m an easy “target”. Went to doctor Berk to help and he was very blunt, said my son was in “crisis” and if I didn’t switch him to Perspectives academy he will end up going there anyway when his home school kicks him out. I believed him and bought into everything we needed to do hook line and sinker. Summer camps, social skills groups, perspectives academy. It didn’t work, I feel like I have been catfished and my sons mental health declined. I wish I never would have trusted him.

Ineffective, and front desk is beyond problematic
My son saw Dr. Berk for at least 4 years. No progress was made, and I wasn't expecting Dr. Berk to "fix" my child. My son attended social skills groups as well as individual therapy. During the summer of 2020, my son attended one of his "camps." My son had an issue with another camper, and the staff didn't take care of it--they called ME to resolve it. Wait...isn't that your job? We also worked later on with a family therapist from there. She did more harm than good, and caused our son to be completely turned off to therapy. At least twice she forgot we even had an appointment, and we gave up entirely in 2021. To cap things off, the staff receptionist called me in early January 2023, to tell me that we owed money. Um...what? They were sending SMS notices to our LANDLINE, and not running our card on file. She threatened to send our account to collections. I tried to get a hold of her over the course of 3 weeks, to no avail. Absolutely AVOID.

Complete Disappointment
My son was ridiculed over and over by Dr. Berk. He left sessions feeling worse about himself than prior to seeing him. We spent over one year seeing him then left due to lack of progress. Found a new psychologist and have had life changing results with him.

Extremely disappointed
Dr. Berk & Associates is supposed to be the "best of the best" when it comes to childhood electronic addiction, well they are the farthest from the BEST. They are the WORST! His receptionist is so clueless and disorganized. The office manager is as helpful as a box of rocks. There is no communication between the front office & Dr. Berk & his clinicians as far as getting messages to or speaking with Dr. Berk or clinician. They don't return calls or follow up on anything unless they are looking to make money. Dr. Berk is to busy with writing books, hosting camps/retreats, etc. to personally see patients so his treatment plan is to have the child attend group sessions, a camp and or see a clinician in his practice. This practice has dropped the ball so many times.. Then when we asked for our child's medical records they wanted to charge us for each page. SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY AND SANITY AND DON"T USE THIS PRACTICE

Do not recommend
At first Dr. Berk said he will provide extra help for my son including his school, therapy, etc, we filled out lot of application, bought laptop for that school, he had first day at school. After that , nobody contacted with us for 3 weeks… Absolutely ignorance… Nobody answered phone. This person gives false reassurance. Keep away your children from him, save your $$$

Office staff is basically incompetent. They schedule appointments, and then forget they made them. They don't return calls (unless they're looking for $). They don't relay messages. It is clear that $ is the objective... navigate to the website, and instantly a pop up comes up for their payment portal. Jay Berk is rude... interrupts sessions while in progress, is dismissive, and curt. I worked with one of his protégées, and it was a nightmare. Totally unorganized, cancelled appointments, loses reports. I had a bad feeling from the first phone interaction, and should have listened to my gut. Complete waste of time

Dr. Berk has been the only specialist in 13 years who has been able to reach my son. The inner workings of my son's adhd/odd/mood disorder brain have been engaged at a level that is finally responding. Dr Berk allows my son to be who he is and through direct consultative conversation has helped him understand his reactions and underlying triggers. Dr Berk has pushed my son to own his behavior and decide when to make good decisions and why it is in his best interest to do so. Dr Berk discusses the expected results for good and poor choices and puts the foundation in place and gives my son the tools to work through situations that otherwise have been escalated family terrors. Dr Berk works with us as a family unit as well, to ensure the lines of communication are not manipulated or severed. It has been a long process but without Dr Berk I truly believe my family would have self-destructed.

Dr. Berk is a jerk. He was rude and downright mean to my son. We went to his group for years and it did more harm than good. My child went to his "Sea Camp" in Florida and was angry when he returned. He was dirty, sunburned and did not enjoy it. If I wanted to find out about my son's progress in these expensive group sessions, I had to make an appointment with our family and he charged us for his time. We would all come out crying. Find another therapist.

Dr. Berk seems knowledgeable, is an excellent presenter, staff is nice and efficient, and many of his programs seemed innovative. However, his blunt tell it like it is manner is not for everyone. My daughter, on the spectrum, shy, and low in self esteem to begin with, was in tears by the time she left his office. I was almost in tears as well. Making comments about needing to improve physical appearance to helpgain acceptance (hair, get rid of acne etc.) were cruel and just unnecessary.

My son is 29 years old and has been going to Dr. Berk's "group" for many years. My son is on the autistic spectrum and is high functioning but still has many challenges. The "group" has addressed many of these challenges and I credit Dr. Berk for helping set some of his priorities. Dr. Berk seems to be able to communicate in group so my son understands.
