I employed Dr. Hartiens for many years. We parted ways for a few months. When I returned to his practice, he was quite cold hearted towards me. Downright rude and impersonal. He normally offered a prayer, at the end of the session. However, his statement, to me, was that "you're not worthy of a prayer yet." I left his office in tears while feeling totally alone in my recovery. After this encounter I never returned. Dr. Hartiens may work out well with you but my experience was a catastrophe.

I am in an abusive marriage. Dr. Hartiens recommendations focused on increasing the frequency of sex while he completely ignored discussing the abuse. This only made the situation in our marriage worse. We spent many months with this counselor. He kept promising me he would discuss the topic of abuse but never did. He was completely intimidated by my husband during the counseling sessions. I would not recommend this counselor if you are in or dealing with abusive relationships.

Do not see Dr. Hartiens if you are in an emotionally abusive marriage. He was too intimated by my husband and couldn't confront him on the abusive behaviors he observed and discussed with me. We wasted a lot of time and money with Dr. Hartiens!

Dr. Hartiens stays on point and on topic and offers tangible techniques and methods to apply to what seemed, unmanageable issues. He has helped me to view issues with a different perspective. I always leave his office with a brighter outlook!
