Dr. Karin Alterescu, PHD

Dr. Alterescu evaluated my boys. I approached her last minute, in June 2023 in need of evaluation for a new school. She managed to find time for me although her busy schedule, evaluated the boys and sent the report right on time, and they both got accepted to the school. The boys reported she is lovely and kind and made them feel very comfortable. I highly recommend Dr Alterescu, she is very professional, kind, communicative and deliver results on time. It was a pleasure to work with her.

Dr. Karin Alterescu helped me view things in a better perspective and helped me discover a wide variety of tools I could use in between sessions to feel better, concentrate better and deal with the stress that can arise in difficult situations. I felt comfortable discussing how I was feeling with Dr. Karin Alterescu. It felt like the pace was good for me. I definitely see a great difference between how I first felt when I started and now.

I am glad that I picked Dr. Alterescu to evaluate my daughter. I found her to be very thorough in her evaluation, and she tried to be flexible with us in terms of meeting/evaluation days and times and payment plans. I was also pleased that she cared about our comfort during our visits to the office. We appreciate that Dr. Alterescu remains available to us occasionally as we face the challenges ahead trying to get my daughter what she needs by answering our questions and giving us advice when we reach out to her.

Dr. Alterscu has worked with my special needs daughter. She has supplied my daughter with tools, ideas and hope for a better path. My daughter was able to describe her anxieties and worries, easily with Dr. Alterscu. I’ve had conversations with Dr. Alterscu to help me better understand and relate better to my daughter.

MUST read this! Dr. Karin Alterescu wrote an appeal for exam accommodation to the New York Bar Exam Board Of Examiners (after my original application was denied). The original was written by a different psychologist. My experience with Karin was simply Phenomenal! she is not only an expert in her field, but also one of the nicest and most kind person I have ever met. From the very first conversation with her, I have felt she fully sympathizes with the situation that I’m in and she offered to help with all her heart, even with my financial limitations. Dr. Alterescu evaluated my daughter when she was four. She was extremely patient with my daughter and my entire family, and took her time with both parents. She was generous, helpful, nonjudgmental, and kind. She was amazing to watch with my little girl. She’s good at what she does, she was spot on with the diagnosis, and made a difference in our lives.

We were extremely pleased with Dr. Alterescu's evaluation of both of our sons. Her report and recommendations helped us understand one of our sons better and gave us practical advice about how to help him. She advocated on our son's behalf and convincingly argued for the accommodations he requires at his private school, based on her bilingual, culturally-sensitive expertise. Her thoughtfulness, compassion, and patience with our sons was evident. She is warm, competent, and professional.

I appreciated Dr.Alterescu's thoroughness with the testing. However, some more preparation would also have shortened office time and phone appointments. Occasionally, missed questions and other important steps took up some time, which was avoidable. The was some delay in getting the final report, but it was comprehensive and clear.

Dr. Alterescu evaluated my son for school issues. She spent ample time doing a full neuropsych evaluation over several sessions and two sessions with my husband and me, which were extremely helpful in understanding our son's diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Going above and beyond, Dr. Alterescu spent a day observing our son at his school, reviewed his report cards and testing, and interviewed past teachers. She is warm, intelligent, and incredibly thorough. I recommend her highly!

Endlessly patient and caring, she helped my child entangle a sequence of events that had made her life especially difficult in recent years. I was reassured by the in-depth scientific knowledge Dr. Alterescu has of the brain and the ways trauma had impacted her. I highly recommend her services to any child going through difficulties.
