Lauren was knowledgeable about genetics but seemed to get irritated when I asked questions about the ethical nature of genetic testing. I asked her why my OB only recommends amniocentesis to women over 35 if many of the conditions they test for are independent of maternal age. She told me that I was "fixated" on my OB's reasons for recommending amnio. Amnio is an invasive procedure with risks involved, and I think everyone who considers it should be "fixated" on their reasons for doing it.
