For a provider who states they support clients with chronic illness, Dr Vanhusen declined to treat me because their practice is "Not equipped or set up to spend significant amounts of time outside of session talking to other providers, reading emails, etc." Ultimately, we were not a fit. However, the basis for my recommendation is a lack of interest in understanding my condition or willingness to coordinate care with other providers, two things that are especially important for people coping with complex chronic illnesses. Without a willingness to understand my story and coordinate care, it was not possible to develop a strong therapeutic relationship. They may be a fit for others seeking a purely skills-based approach, separate from the context of chronic illness.
