Sought PT care for neck & shoulder issues. My treatment plan was 95% strength training, which was excessive for my ability and pain level. Nothing therapeutic about it except 10 minutes of ice at the end of visit. Margie refused to balance out the physical training with massage or e-stim (which I've had success with in the past). She informed me that these would not help with my healing and PT is about strengthening, not easing pain and told me to see a masseuse if I want massage (I do when I can afford) I'm all for strengthening. I've been working on this for the past year and a half and seeing results. But being pushed to the point of increased pain and decreased functionality didn't work for me. "Tough love" is not an effective approach for everyone, even if they are overweight and in a vulnerable state. For some of us, this approach = fat-shaming. I will stick with professionals that are mindful of how they treat their patients rather than seeing us as all the same.
