Melissa has done so much to help me and I am so grateful. She was absolutely a life saver for me. She is very smart but without an ounce of pretense. I had a lot oftherapists who just listened and said things like ‘oh, how did that make you feel’ and other pointless platitudes. I feel like Melissa told me some hard truths and gave me actual feedback. She was almost like a teacher because she taught me a lot about how my brain works, how to reset my nervous system, validating, boundaries, and recognize my own unhealthy patterns in my family. If you want a therapist who really digs deep with you then I recommend Melissa. She can be blunt but I always knew she cared. Side note- she doesn’t take notes or type on a computer during the session and remembers EVERYTHING. She remembered the name of my and even my parents dog. It feels like genuine interest.

I’m a therapist and this my therapist. Down to earth, will call you on your crap, but it’s clear she cares very much about her patients. I would give her 10 stars if I could.

Wasn’t sure about seeing a female therapist at first, but Melissa eliminated those concerns quickly. Straightforward, knows her stuff, and was both easy to talk to and learn from. Really helped me see the things I needed to and helped me figure out how to move in the right direction.

If you have had bad experiences with counseling before, than you need to see Melissa. She actually helps you understand how you got to be the way that you are, doesn’t just sit there awkwardly waiting for you to talk, and it actually makes me look forward to counseling. I have bipolar and trauma and I actually understand now how my brain is different and how I can manage it.

If you need DBT you need counselor. She gets it and she is very real and doesn't look down on you at all.

This is the best therapist in Grand Rapids if you have borderline personality disorder or bipolar. She took a lot of time to actually explain my diagnosis and how to handle it in my everyday life.
